“Beautiful is subjective. Good design is for everyone.”

ความสวยขึ้นอยู่กับรสนิยมของแต่ละคน แต่การออกแบบที่ดีคือการใส่ใจคนที่ใช้งาน ไม่ว่าเขาจะเป็นใครก็ควรสามารถใช้งานได้อย่างสบายและเหมาะสม

สำหรับเรา การออกแบบที่ดีคือการใส่ใจในสิ่งที่เราผลิต ตั้งแต่การทำความเข้าใจว่าลูกค้าหรือผู้ใช้งานต้องการอะไร ไปจนถึงการออกแบบให้ตอบโจทย์การใช้งานจริง ไม่ใช่แค่สวยในมุมมองของเราเท่านั้น

Beauty is subjective and depends on personal taste. Good design, however, is about putting the user first. Whoever they are, they should be able to use the piece comfortably and intuitively.

For me, good design means paying attention to the people who will actually use what we create — understanding their needs and making sure the design is appropriate for them, rather than designing only for how it looks.

“Good design is often in the detail you don’t see”
สำหรับผม รายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ ที่มีความหมาย มักเป็นสิ่งที่เราอาจมองไม่เห็นในทันที แต่กลับส่งผลต่อความรู้สึกและการใช้งานของชิ้นงาน เช่น การลบเหลี่ยมมุม ขนาดและสัดส่วน หรือการวางตำแหน่งขององค์ประกอบต่าง ๆ ให้พอดี

รวมถึงรายละเอียดที่ซ่อนอยู่ อย่างการประกอบใต้เก้าอี้ หรือการเก็บงานในจุดที่คนทั่วไปอาจไม่ได้สังเกต เพราะสิ่งเหล่านี้ล้วนมีผลต่อทั้งความรู้สึกเมื่อได้สัมผัสและคุณภาพของการใช้งาน
สำหรับผม คุณภาพของงานไม่ได้อยู่แค่ในสิ่งที่มองเห็น แต่อยู่ในรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ ที่เราตั้งใจใส่ลงไป แม้จะไม่มีใครสังเกตเห็นก็ตาม

For me, the small details that matter most are often the ones you may not notice at first, but can feel through the way a piece is used. It could be the softened edges, the proportions, or the placement of each element to make everything feel just right.
There are also details that remain hidden, such as how the chair is assembled underneath or how certain areas are finished, things that most people may never notice, but still contribute to the overall quality and experience of the piece.

To me, good design is not only about what you can see. It is also about the small details we choose to care about, even when no one may ever notice them.

What makes this piece worth creating?
ก่อนเริ่มออกแบบ ผมมักคิดก่อนว่า “งานชิ้นนี้จะมีอะไรที่ทำให้มันแตกต่าง?”
ไม่ใช่แค่ทำให้สวยขึ้น แต่คือการหาคุณค่าหรือมุมมองใหม่ๆ ที่ทำให้ชิ้นงานมีเหตุผลที่จะเกิดขึ้น และมีบางอย่างที่แตกต่างจากสิ่งที่มีอยู่แล้ว จากนั้นจึงค่อยกลับมาดูว่า ภายใต้โจทย์และข้อจำกัดที่มี เราสามารถสร้างความแตกต่างนั้นออกมาได้อย่างไร เพราะบางครั้ง ข้อจำกัดไม่ได้เป็นสิ่งที่ขวางการออกแบบ แต่เป็นจุดเริ่มต้นที่ทำให้เราเจอวิธีคิดใหม่ๆ

Before I start designing, I often ask myself, “What will make this piece different?”
It’s not simply about making something look better, but finding a new value or perspective that gives the piece a reason to exist , something that sets it apart from what already exists.
From there, I look at the brief and its limitations, and ask how we can create that difference within what we have.

Sometimes, limitations aren’t what hold a design back. They can be the starting point for finding a new way of thinking.

ก่อนจะกลายเป็นเฟอร์นิเจอร์หนึ่งชิ้น ไม้แต่ละแผ่นและแต่ละท่อนต้องผ่านการเตรียมอย่างตั้งใจ

ที่ HOOG เราให้ความสำคัญกับวัสดุตั้งแต่เริ่มต้น ทั้งการเลือกไม้ให้เหมาะกับงาน การดูรายละเอียดของเนื้อไม้ ลวดลาย และผิวสัมผัส รวมถึงการเตรียมไม้ให้พร้อมสำหรับการขึ้นรูปและประกอบเป็นชิ้นงาน

เพราะรายละเอียดเล็ก ๆ ที่เกิดขึ้นตั้งแต่ในโรงงาน ล้วนมีผลกับงานในตอนสุดท้าย ทั้งความเรียบร้อย ความแข็งแรง และความรู้สึกของเฟอร์นิเจอร์เมื่อได้ใช้งานจริง

เบื้องหลังชิ้นงานที่ดูเรียบง่าย จึงมีทั้งความรู้เรื่องวัสดุ ประสบการณ์ และความใส่ใจของทีมงานอยู่ในนั้น
