Our "Labor of Love"
Home in Hua Hin is Finally Ready! ✨

Ever wondered what happens when a renovator gets to work on their own place?
Well, for our Hua Hin home, it was a 2-year journey of passion, patience, and collecting treasures! Every piece of furniture and decor in this house tells a story – they're all our own hand-picked collectibles.

This wasn't a project with a deadline or a strict budget. We approached it like crafting a piece of art, letting inspiration guide us. In fact, after visiting Salvador Dali's home in Spain recently, I even joked that maybe we should have gone even crazier! (Still regretting selling that Dali-designed lip sofa, though! 😆)
Get ready to see a truly unique home born from love and inspired by the unexpected!

Hello everyone!
This time, it's the turn of my own home in Hua Hin. We'd go back to work on it whenever we had time, so this was a project without budget or time constraints, just like buying a piece of art. I only recently had the chance to visit the legendary artist Salvador Dali's home in Spain, and it made me regret a little that I didn't go even wilder with my own place! 😆 And I really shouldn't have sold that lip-shaped sofa that Dali designed, huh?

The house is on a 72 sq. wah plot of land. Initially, there was just a very small main house with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. So, we extended by adding a secondary building for the kitchen and dining area, and expanded the main house to be wider. The narrow bathrooms were also expanded; I love large bathrooms and don't mind small bedrooms. Actually, the house could have been extended even more, but the budget already went quite high. 😅

The second floor, which used to be a balcony, was converted into another bedroom, and a new bathroom was built on the second floor. So now the house has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
Since this entire village was designed by the developer with different Spanish city themes, all the roofs are orange, and there are hardly any Thai residents. The developer told us this particular house was inspired by Ibiza, the island in Spain where Europeans love to party.

And we wanted the house to maintain a strong sense of the sea, but avoiding the word "Bali." In truth, our work does have a lot of Balinese influence because I lived in Bali for 6 years. But I just wanted something unique, 😆 so I added a touch of raw, unrefined character. We included cowhide sofas that I designed myself, and the tables, chairs, and beds were also custom-designed. The bedroom wall behind the bed has a low-relief plaster pattern, there are uniquely shaped pillars in the kitchen, and the cement fence was built piece by piece. Our workers put in a lot of effort to make it exactly as envisioned.

In the end, we thought of an island in Africa and settled on Tanzania, which has the famous paradise island of Zanzibar. The language spoken there is Swahili. So, we named the house "Mahaba," which means "Love" in Swahili.

All the furniture and home decor items were imported by us personally. There are so many small details that I couldn't even photograph them all – for instance, the wooden trays have small, African-inspired logos carved into them, which were custom-made. We just wanted it to have a bit of character. 😌
