Great conversations and new opportunities for papaya growers in Mexico!

East-West Seed México was proud to take part in the national papaya event in Puerto Vallarta, connecting with growers, technical advisors, researchers, and distributors who share a passion for better papaya production.

Our team shared practical crop insights, showcased fruit samples, and introduced our commercial hybrids Red Sugar, Belanova, Maradona, and Vega through seed samples.

We also connected with local growers to explore new field trials, creating more opportunities to learn together and understand what works best in their fields.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and shared their experiences. We look forward to growing these connections and continuing to support papaya farmers in Mexico!

Today in Des Moines, history is being made for tropical agriculture.

Our colleague Pamela Afokpe, R&D Operations Manager at East-West Seed West Africa, steps onto the stage at the World Food Prize Foundation to accept the 2026 Norman Borlaug Field Award.

Nine years ago in Benin, Pamela started with a rented field and a clear mission: improve traditional local vegetables that had been ignored for decades.

She built our research station from scratch, listened to farmers and market women, and created disease-resistant varieties like Sika Gboma. Her work helps smallholders harvest more, waste less, and earn better daily incomes.

Pamela carries forward the legacy of our late founder, Simon Groot, proving that better seeds truly mean better lives.

Leave your congratulations for Pamela in the comments below!

Food security begins with smallholder farmers.

On , we reaffirm our commitment to equipping smallholders with high-quality tropical vegetable seeds and hands-on field training. When farmers succeed, it has a massive ripple effect and thousands of communities gain access to nutritious food!

This is the vision our late founder, Simon N. Groot, championed when accepting the World Food Prize in 2019: "The small guys really do matter - and so do vegetables."

Today is International Day of Rural Women!

As we recognize their impact during this FAO-designated International Year of the Woman Farmer, we are reminded that while women drive local vegetable farming, their daily schedules and travel constraints can limit their ability to succeed, and these factors are often overlooked.

At East-West Seed, we learn from and are inspired by the findings of the 2024 East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer Foundation Women Farmers Study in Nigeria (read the report: https://www.ews-kt.com/women-farmers-study/)

By bringing flexible, practical farm advice directly into local communities, EWS-KT helps women farmers thrive so whole communities can rise.

To all women farmers working in rural areas: thank you for your partnership every day!

Great to see new vegetable varieties reaching growers in Latin America.

In Colombia, our team joined our local partner ImpulSemillas to launch Merlot F1, a new sweet pepper hybrid for regional farmers.

This variety brings several key traits to help growers succeed:

➡️ Uniform, high-yielding Lamuyo-type peppers

➡️ A deep red color when mature

➡️ Strong firmness and reliable post-harvest shelf life

➡️ Built-in resistance to Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV)

Thank you to the local farmers and partners who joined us for the launch. We look forward to seeing Merlot F1 perform in fields in Colombia and beyond!

Happy Customer Service Week!

As Customer Service Week 2026 coincides with East-West Seed’s 44th founding anniversary on October 7 (founded by Simon Groot), we extend our gratitude to our dedicated partners.

Thank you for being a valued partner in our community and for your dedication to the farmers we serve. Let’s keep growing together! 🌱

On this day, forty-four years ago, Simon Groot founded East-West Seed with a simple belief: “A good seed can change the lives of millions.”

Over the past 44 years, millions of smallholder farmers across 80+ countries have worked tirelessly to feed their communities and build a sustainable future.

To the farming families who trust us every season, and to the local partners walking side-by-side with them in the field: thank you. Your resilience, hard work, and feedback inspire everything we do.

As Simon often reminded us, our work is far from finished. Facing unpredictable weather and shifting climates, we remain committed to equipping farmers with resilient genetics and practical field training so they can continue to succeed.

💬 What is one wish you have for the future of smallholder farmers in tropical regions? Share it in the comments below!
