Early 19th Century Central Anatolian Konya Prayer Rug Size: 113x160 cm (44,48x62,99 In)

Vibrant colors abound in these Turkish masterpieces. So much so that many antique rug collectors almost always gravitate towards the Konya category of Turkish rugs due to its bold use of colors, contrasts and patterns. The vibrancy of colors adds vibrancy to the shapes and the strong use of outlines allows one to focus on the geometric medallions used to define the foreground in both the borders and center center of Konya carpets.

Antique Caucasian Akstafa long rug with three star medallions and birds.
Circa 1880.
This is a good example of a well known group of long rugs attributed to the town of Akstafa. This rug is of classic design with three 'star' medallions on a midnight blue ground. Each medallion is flanked by the traditional Akstafa birds with large peacock like tails. The field is filled with many tribal devices and designs. The border is a good example of the classic ivory ground Akstafa design.
The rug has a soft floppy handle with fine wool, the colour palette gives the rug a soft warm feel.
The rug is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good thick pile, the rug is suitable for normal domestic use.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
