At UTSA, researchers collaborate with users with visual, auditory, and physical limitations to completely rethink XR hardware and interaction design. From AI-driven navigation to adaptive controllers, they aim to ensure that access to virtual worlds isn't limited by real-world bodies.

🍷🍇What do virtual reality and winemaking have in common? Precision!

Before construction even starts, architects and vintners are now using VR to simulate cellar layouts and test how large oak barrels will fit into tight winery spaces. Its design meets tradition.

The workflow involves creating a full-scale digital twin of the winery and letting teams explore it via headset. They can rearrange elements, test logistics, and even visualize lighting before making a single physical change. That saves time, money, and the integrity of the final product.

🩻 If you’ve got an X-ray or an MRI, your images were almost certainly processed by DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine), the globally accepted standard for storing and sharing medical imaging data like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans between hospitals, clinics, and research institutions since the late 80s and early 90s.

But there’s a problem: while medical technology has made incredible leaps in the last 30 years, DICOM hasn’t kept up.
