Are we losing touch with who we are?

As an African, I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of our designs; bold, vibrant, and deeply rooted in heritage.

Yet, I often walk into spaces that feel disconnected from us. Gyms, offices, even homes.

Where is the African story in the spaces where we spend most of our time?

When it comes to resorts or beaches, this disconnect is even louder.

We pay to experience African design, but shouldn’t we bring it closer into our daily lives?

Have we stopped believing that our creations are worthy? Or that they can evolve to match modern tastes?

I think our designs are beautiful. Theyare evolving.

So why aren’t we weaving them into our everyday spaces?

Speaking of weaving...what happened to mikeka? Those beautiful, handwoven mats once graced our homes.

Now, synthetic mats crowd the market more expensive, yet lacking the soul and craftsmanship of mikeka. It’s disheartening.

Here’s my challenge to you: Add one item to your space that connects to your heritage.

Whether it’s a mat, a piece of art, or even furniture, let it tell your story.
