Two things. First, in the United States, great songs are what poetry pretends to be. Next, there is a complete absence of vibrant, newly styled poetry in the 21st century. There are very few listed by the Poetry Foundation, no longer my go-to for new poet info. I do like Jamaica-born Claudia Rankine. Her prose poems fill a need and her voice as a Black woman is vital.
