I used to tell myself I didn’t want to deal with smalls and do the little stuff in the shop. Big, bigger, biggest was exciting and was eye catching. And at time it’s true, but the details matter. Just because something is small and maybe fits in your hand doesn’t mean the story is any less interesting or real. It’s the story. They all matter and they carry weight. In finding this out more and more and simply being open to those things coming my way. Early on with the shop I decided competition wasn’t going to be my stake in the ground. Granted, I’m such a competitive person, and it serves its purpose in its own way. But there is enough room for everyone at the table. It’s not about me. This is a weird dance. But everyone belongs and can have a place. There will always be trend chasers and weekend warriors. Flashy and sexy trends will always catch peoples attention. I know for me, my place is the long game. I found a piece of myself in this and am grateful. Grateful to share a piece of myself in a communal setting and be a part of something bigger than myself. I’m going to try and continue to Start Where I Am.

Some pretty cool pieces in the shop and probably should be better about getting it out there. Wouldn’t mind sharing some of the collections in the shop in the coming weeks. A big textile lover over here and especially loving it when it’s Akron based. Stacking some of the pennants currently in the shop. Some other little things to go along with it!

So much warmth when the sun hits in the shop. Both types of warmth. One of those warmth’s where you don’t have to try too hard. Just let the moment be what the moment is. Maybe that should be a bit more of life. Just letting the moment be what the moment is.

I’ve had this guy from the beginning. Got him from an online auction and had no clue what I was doing or buying really. Thought he was a smaller deer mount. Not a deer and definitely not small. He’s going to go back up on the wall in the shop soon. I don’t have a planned date for the next Open House Weekend, but I’ll get one scheduled here soon. Honestly, nothing I’ve wanted to plan has happened for a bit now because life has been lifing and I’m just listening to that. It will be some fun when it happens and hoping you can be there!

No shortage of couch time for Walter usually. After a long weekend on the road I feel like I might be joining him. Missed the Springfield Extravaganza this weekend, but spending it on a road trip with Emile for soccer games I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Not often it happens like this, but it did. An old piece found its way back to the shop after almost 10 years. This one was one I thought about over the years and loved having. With hindsight I wished I would have kept it. Well, with some patience it found its way back!

So somewhere along the way, with enough time and intention, there’s a rhythm to things that can be felt. My rhythm in the shop over time comes back to walls. What to do with them. Thinking outside the box. Covering large spaces with large items to save time in the mad scramble for an Open House Weekend sometimes. But really, the love of walls and the things that go on them. This last weekend something pretty cool happened and I want to share it with you, but not until it arrives. There’s a pretty cool story with it. Found some good things this last weekend out and about with Ewan and head over to the stories to take a look!

Still one of my favorite pictures to this day. When an impromptu opportunity opens up you take a picture in the middle of the street in downtown Cleveland.

Isn’t making it up as you go the whole equation? How can we know anything will be anything when you start? Yep, it will be bad. Yep, it will not be easy. Yep, it will be frustrating. And most certainly it will not look like anything close to resembling a finished product. Just because someone did something a certain way before you doesn’t mean that is how it has to be done for you. And you can study and educate yourself in any discipline, but until you get out there and get messy and into it you will never know how it plays. I tell my class a lot, in order to break the rules you have to know the rules really well. It isn’t something you get to arrive at immediately and declare a change in direction. What that means for me is there needs to be time put in. Plain and simple. Do the work. Make the mistakes. Don’t sit with the mistakes. Keep moving. That is the whole damn point in any of it. Just do the fu***ng work. And we are concerned with a curated life so much nowadays we don’t even start because there is fear of judgement, failure, or a whole myriad of other emotions that cripple the psyche. F**k the curation. The only people concerned about the curated anything don’t matter in your process anyway. We are people. It is messy. It is hard. That is the whole point.
