This project was a East Lake Walnut table from around 1870. Despite being extremely worn and damaged, Springhouse Woodworking brought it back to life. We love how it turned out!

In the Japanese art of Kintsugi—there is the belief that something broken doesn’t have to be hidden. The repair becomes part of its story, and the scars add to its beauty.

At Springhouse, When we repair a crack in a piece of furniture, we often use a Dutchman—a bow tie shaped piece of wood cut to fit into the damaged area to stabilize the piece and give it new life.

We don’t pretend the crack never happened. We’re preserving the piece, while honoring its history, and making sure it can continue its story for years to come.

Whether it’s furniture, a vase or ourselves, sometimes damage isn’t avoidable. But when we repair the damage, letting the scar show through, it adds to the beauty and honors the history.
