I am proud of this deck. It’s a complete frame rebuild with a new staircase and a fully picture-framed deck, plus railing. It’s draped in American Walnut with their metal railing. I’m excited about the memories that will be created and the tall tales to be told on this porch. That’s why I do this.

Nobody wants to look at nougat, amirite‽ (Nougat being the mysterious innards of a Milky Way bar, or the end cut of a PVC deck board. 🤣) I learned this trick from my mentor, , who basically executes origami tricks with pvc deck boards. #
Don’t install your joist hangers first. Get them perfectly flush to the ledger and rim joist, /then/ install the joist hanger.

I’m excited to show my latest project: a shiplap fireplace with walnut accents, both visible and hidden storage, and the most realistic non-fire fireplace I have ever seen.

I’m quite pleased with how these walnut shelves turned out. I hand-selected an eight foot black walnut beauty from for side shelves on a fireplace build for my childhood friend. Each shelf is two inches thick and thirteen inches deep, so this was a hearty slice of wood. I thought through each piece, where it should be placed and what orientation was best. The scheme I followed was blonde sap wood to the face edge and top, as a nice lightener to the dark fireplace. 🥰 🪚 🤠
Over 100 feet of cable railing installed. It’s clean and it’s classy. This is the Skyline Pro railing system from .

I’m quite happy with how this railing came out. I milled the parts from KDAT, which is premium grade pressure treated pine that is kiln dried. I put special consideration into the longevity of this railing to reduce the risk of wood rot by beveling the top and bottom rails and gluing the ends of boards so they won’t soak up moisture like a straw.
I built a custom gate and railing segment to pair with a railing system. I’m happy with the outcome.
I’m proud of this staircase. It wasn’t easy building on a hill sloped at 30 degrees. This project required new structural piers, as the old ones had washed out. We went three feet deep with poured concrete tubes and another three feet beyond with 1/2” rebar. Then we protected the new piers from rain water with plastic sheeting and rock. This staircase will stand the test of time and I’m proud to put my name on it.
