My first attempt using wedge-tenon construction.
This is a Shaker inspired bench 36 inches wide by 12 inches deep by 17 inches tall.
The small dark walnut wedges are driven into the tenon to make it expand out to form a very tight joint. No need for glue or fasteners.
I need to hone my chisel skills as uneven mortise holes are really obvious in the end. Thats ok… it’s the journey not the destination.

All of the old tile is gone, the wood border is in place, and a new coated of polyurethane is applied.
New Talavera tiles are next.

Here is the first tile inlaid table I built 28 years later. I am replacing the tiles to go back to traditional Talavera.
You can see it stands up to a lifetime of family use. Having to use a chisel to free the tiles.
Stand by for pics of the newly imagined tiles.
I have received some questions lately about how well the tiles stand up over time and if they will ever come loose?
Here is a video of me removing tiles on a table I built 28 years ago.
As you can see - no worries - they are not coming off easily.
