How do you make NEW belong in a 120-year-old home?
Here’s how this Belle Plaine project went from inspiration, to design, to build, to finished installation.
Old houses have character—and curves. This floor was out more than 1" from end to end, the existing doorway was leaning nearly 1/2", and some hard-to-replace original mouldings needed to be preserved.
Everything had to transition seamlessly through that opening while still looking intentional once it was installed.
A lot of that comes down to planning the mouldings, reveals, and transitions so the imperfections disappear into the finished room.
✨ Project details:
• Material: Quartersawn white oak
• Finish: Yorkshire stain
• Cabinet Style: Inset cabinetry with 1 1/2" thick solid wood tops
• Hardware: Soft-close hardware
• Storage: Adjustable shelving behind doors
• Historic Integration: Custom crown and base matched to the existing historic profile, built wall-to-wall around an existing doorway, and original mouldings preserved where it met up with new cabinetry.
📐 Save this one if you like the idea of making something new feel like it’s always belonged there.
