Coldest morning so far. I decided to clean the shop this morning. Long overdue. The paint room was where I started and I am pleased with the result. Just past noon now, and I think I will need more than a morning to give the shop the right Feng Shui.

We are having a long dry spell. I am trying to get my winter rye through until the next rain. It was cold today, however the sun brought me right back to summer.

John and I started working together when he was a senior in high school. For more than a decade I introduced him to the fundamentals of general contracting and he became a talented carpenter. He helped me build my shop and my business more than any one person. The last photo is from today. After many years building he decided that excavation was his calling and we spent today together putting in concrete forms for an addition which I am starting. His patience and expertise running his excavator were a pleasure for me to watch. The photo for today was for documentation for my building permit. I wish it was a better shot of John. I am proud to call him my friend.

40”x24” Maple mirror frame. I caught the late afternoon sun in time to final sand and oil. I used a beading tool to gouge out a trough for the adhesive and I am utilizing a euro style hanger bar made from left over maple. One beveled piece gets affixed to the wall and the mirror has a bevel bar attached.

The grain in this red oak is”corky”. I haven’t looked into this, however I believe there is such a tree as Cork Oak. This is the second coat of oil urethane on one coat of dewaxed shellac. I will knock the gloss down tomorrow and see if a third coat will fill the rest of the open grain. Nice gloss. The base is done. Two coats over sealer. My modeling project is in it’s second iteration and is a little rough. The concept is still in flux. Not quite ready to make it pretty.

All of these items can be found on Facebook marketplace. Recently acquired items have placed a burden on my shop space. Some items, I simply want to go to someone who can use them.

Detailing is done and now easing edges and finish sanding. Easy day tomorrow.
