If your home needs it, we make it happen. He knew one thing, every house in his neighborhood needed some kind of work that could give college students jobs. Either mowing the grass every week or so, weeding garden beds, taking down unwanted trees, cleaning gutters, taking out unwanted junk, and even shoveling snow in the winter. He came up with the business name because he and his employees were Scholars doing Blue Collar work. Many of his neighbors loved the idea and wanted to help out local college kids so the company took off immediately. Since then Blue Collar Scholars has become a premier landscaping business in the DC suburbs. Sam also operates a software development company and has been featured on top business podcasts and news sources for his companies.

A compromised walkway presents an immediate risk to homeowners and guests.

We recently executed a full replacement of an entryway on a brick residential property.
We poured a fresh concrete staircase to establish a structurally sound foundation.
Surface level fixes fail quickly under daily foot traffic.

We installed a continuous black metal railing and anchored the posts directly into the new concrete.
This anchoring method ensures the handrail remains rigid and fully supports weight for decades.
Proper masonry and metalwork eliminate structural liability and improve the overall curb appeal of the asset.

Addressing exterior safety hazards protects your investment and your visitors.

We welcome your thoughts on managing exterior structural repairs in the comments.

A buyer decides if they like your house before they even open the front door.
Real estate agents call this the drive by test.

Installing a paver walkway and fresh landscape lighting passes that test immediately.
Inside the house buyers look straight at the kitchen and the primary bathroom.
A walk in shower and a floating vanity stop buyers from mentally subtracting money from their offer.

A crumbling front walkway is more than an eyesore. It is a serious safety hazard for anyone visiting your home.

We recently tore out a set of cracked concrete steps that had become a major liability. Our crew brought in the jackhammers and cleared out all the broken rubble.

We set up precise wooden forms and poured fresh concrete to build a solid foundation. Once the new stairs cured, we anchored a heavy black metal railing directly into the stone.
The front entrance to this brick home is finally safe, secure, and easy to navigate.

We finished up this backyard project recently, and it completely changed how the homeowners use their space. They wanted an area where they could relax and actually enjoy being outside, so we got to work on a full patio and walkway installation.

We used a patterned stone for the main area and added a solid border to give the design a clean, finished look. The curved planter bed helps blend the new hardscape into the rest of the yard, and now they have a dedicated, stable spot for their hot tub and outdoor furniture.

It is a simple update that makes a massive difference in how the property feels.
What is your favorite part of this new setup?

We walk into homes every week where plugins and candles are working overtime. The owners just want to cover up a weird odor. A strange smell is actually a massive clue. It tells us exactly where a house is starting to fail.

A client recently asked us to look at a bathroom with a persistent mildew smell. They scrubbed the tiles twice a week to fix it. The real issue was a cheap exhaust fan venting shower moisture straight into the attic. We replaced the fan and ran proper ducting outside. The odor disappeared because the trapped moisture was finally gone.

You cannot clean away a structural problem. A rotten egg smell means sewer gas is escaping a dry pipe. A musty basement means ground water is pushing against your foundation. Finding the source saves your walls and your wallet.

Dumbarton House asked us to help restore their property, and we are still a little humbled by it.

The stone balustrade along the main stair needed the most attention. Balusters had shifted and one had cracked through at the base. We took them off section by section, cleaned the seats, laid a fresh mortar bed, and set each one back with a rubber mallet and a level. No baluster goes back down until it reads true.

The stair wall got patch repairs, ground flush so you have to look hard to find them. That is the goal on historic stone. The repair should disappear.

While we were there we opened up the trench drain running along the walkway. The old channel was rusted through, so we cut it out and set a new channel and grate in concrete.

This is a building that has been standing in DC a long time, and plenty of people walk past it every week without knowing what holds it up.

More restoration work is coming on this one. Anyone here ever been inside Dumbarton House?

A homeowner recently asked us to honor a quote from fourteen months ago.

We always want to say yes.

The reality of building in our area means costs shift.

Lumber and concrete prices change based on their own specific markets.

Skilled labor is in high demand across Fairfax and Arlington.

County permit rules update every single year.

Building an accurate quote means pricing the exact reality of your yard today.

We will always give you a fresh and honest price to get your project done right.

What project are you hoping to price out this spring? 🛠️

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was changed forever.

Today, the team at Blue Collar Scholars is taking a moment to step back from the job sites and reflect on the incredible sacrifices made by our first responders, the innocent lives lost, and the families who still carry that heavy weight today.

We also remember the profound unity that followed the tragedy—a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the American people. We spend our days building up our local communities, but today our only focus is honoring the heroes who protected them.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
