“Papaw Jay” isn’t just a name on the sign—it’s who I am.
Passing these skills down to my son Darian, who works alongside me in the shop every day, has been one of the greatest blessings of this craft. But seeing that passion reach the generation after that? That’s what it’s really all about.
Any time I get to share shop time with my grandkids—teaching them how to run a sander, respect the tools, and take pride in building something with their own two hands—is truly special. Hard work, patience, and family tradition in the making.
Nothing beats making sawdust together. 🪵❤️

What’s more “Papaw” and “wood shop” than a morning run to pick out lumber with my favorite granddaughter riding sh***un? 🪵👧✨
We made a stop by Old Mill Hardwood Co. to hand-select some gorgeous boards for the upcoming builds at Papaw Jay's Wood Shop. Safe to say, quality control is in very good hands today!
Building things by hand is great, but getting to share these shop runs, teach the next generation about good grain, and make memories along the way is the best part of the craft.
