“Brighton” hand block by
Intended to symbolise a ‘garden of paradise’, the motif of exquisitely detailed foliage and brilliantly plumed birds on a natural linen ground cloth has an elegant extravagance, characteristic of Victorian decor.
Its namesake is the Brighton Royal Pavilion, the opulent seaside home of George, Price Regent and later King George IV, his brother William IV and their niece Queen Victoria. The exterior of Brighton Pavilion is largely the work of architect John Nash. Decorated in the Chinese taste, the interior is a fantasy world filled with mythical creatures, astonishing colors and superb craftsmanship.
This Brighton design is not unlike the hand painted wallpaper in the Red Drawing Room of Brighton Pavilion and in the bedroom of Queen Victoria’s apartment, both designed in 1836 by Robert Jones.
This extravagant and detailed design is crafted using a set of 168 hand blocks engraved in 1917.

Briar Linen designed so that everyday could be
Graceful & Elegant!
This pretty design originated in an antique wallpaper discovered behind a wooden shutter in an old farmhouse on the Inchyra estate in Perthshire, Scotland. The shutters had been nailed shut for many years and, on removing them for a refurbishment of the house, the wallpaper was uncovered. Briar adds a useful slightly smaller-scale main design than we have released lately and, as well as being a stunning main print for a scheme, is also extremely effective at pulling a scheme together. Briar is finished with our specialist processes to produce a pleasingly aged and softened linen.
DM for samples or visit us in the showroom to see its beauty in person. Available in magnificent color ways.
