Valle, the Michelin-starred restaurant inside Oceanside's Mission Pacific Hotel, was a project with a lot of moving pieces. This communal table is just one of them, built for the private dining room.

For Denizen, a multi-family project, we built a white console for two of their locations. It's finished in plaster, giving it a soft, matte texture instead of a painted sheen, with a pair of sculpted black pulls breaking up all that white.

We also built orange side tables for the space, rounded and hourglass shaped, adding some color and personality throughout the property.

Along with the rest of the world, we're feeling the loss of Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton's SongTeller Hotel was built to honor her life, with spaces inspired by her songs, and her legacy lives in every corner, including the pieces we were lucky enough to build for it.

These side tables, along with the guitar pick tables from the same project, came from a design by PIVOTstudio. We partnered with a local stone fabricator on a quartz top and wrapped the sides in cherry veneer, with the grain running horizontal for a warm, elevated look, the kind of detail this designer worked through from the very start.

We're grateful to have had a small part in a place that will keep celebrating her for years to come.

Jay handles all of our finishing work, and getting a stain right takes more than picking a color off a chart, since every type of wood takes stain a little differently.

He works from the actual sample the client approved, building the color up in coats rather than trying to get there all at once. That keeps the wood's own grain showing through while he brings the piece in line with that approved sample.

That kind of control is what lets him match an existing piece almost exactly, or bring out more from a material than it would show on its own before finishing.
