Inside the home we shared last week.

Wood ceilings, stone, and black-frame glass carry from room to room. Nothing fights for attention.

A house tends to feel finished when the pieces work together, not when every piece tries to stand out.

Most door problems start before the order goes in.

A door that doesn't fit usually isn't the wrong door. It's the right door for a measurement that was off a little, or a swing direction nobody double-checked.

Older homes make this trickier. Openings settle and shift over the years, so one measurement rarely tells the whole story.

The checklist here takes a few minutes. It's worth saving for the next time you're standing in a doorway with a tape measure.

A mistake is almost always easier to fix before the order than after it.

A quote is a number. A job is everything that happens after it.

A price that looks good on paper can get more expensive fast if the product shows up late, does not fit, or has to be reordered. None of that shows up in the original number.

A local supplier is not automatically less expensive than a national one. What it usually offers is faster answers when something needs to change mid-project, and someone you can actually reach.

It's the same thinking behind the Elite Collection. When we've picked the doors and windows ourselves, we can stand behind them and answer for them.

The number on the quote is only part of the math.

A recent project we wanted to share.

Dark board-and-batten, stacked stone, and warm wood where it counts. The wood front doors and the open gable over the back porch pull it all together.

Simple choices, done well. That's usually what makes a house feel finished.

Pro Tip: Before you buy a new door, ask what comes with it.

"A door" can mean a few different things. Sometimes it's just the slab. Sometimes it comes already hung in its frame. Hardware and trim may or may not be part of it.

Two prices for the "same" door can look far apart for that reason alone.

This is where people get stuck. The door shows up, and then there's a second trip for the parts nobody mentioned.

What's included depends on the product and the job. It's worth asking before you compare prices, not after.

One question up front can save a whole weekend.

One habit shows up again and again among crews that stay on schedule: confirming stock before building a timeline around it.

Stock changes throughout the week. A size or style that was available a few days ago is not guaranteed to still be there today.

A quick call before you build a schedule around a product saves the schedule from moving later.

It takes a few minutes. Skipping it can cost a lot more.

Coffee's on at the Dawsonville showroom every morning!

You don't need a project ready to talk about to stop in. Some people are figuring out what they need. Some are just curious what's actually on the floor these days.

Either way, there's a pot on, and nobody's going to hand you a sales pitch with it.

Same brick. Same lanterns. Same porch.

The only thing that changed was the door.

Before: a painted six-panel door with narrow sidelights and a small transom. Nothing wrong with it. It just kept most of the daylight outside.

After: a pair of wood doors with divided glass on both sides. Black handles in place of brass. Light reaches all the way into the entry now.

A front door is often the first thing people notice about a house. It's also one of the last things most homeowners think to change.

Here's a look at a new home going up.

A build like this pulls from a long list of materials. Siding, doors, windows, trim, and plenty more- all of it needing to arrive in the right order.

That's a lot of moving pieces for any builder or homeowner to line up.

If you have a big project coming up, many of those items are kept in stock at TLC Elite, though it's worth confirming before you plan around something specific.

Molded and flush interior doors get compared more than people expect.

A molded door has raised panel detail worked into the surface. It reads as a more traditional look, closer to what most homes already have throughout.

A flush door is flat from edge to edge. No panel lines, no raised detail. It tends to suit a more modern or minimal style.

Neither one is right for every house. It usually comes down to what the rest of the trim and doors in the home are already doing.

Seeing the two side by side tends to settle it faster than any photo can.
