🌕✨ A Super Rare Blue Micromoon is coming!
The upcoming Blue Micromoon on May 31, 2026, will be a rare lunar event because it combines two unusual phenomena: a “Blue Moon,” meaning the second full moon in a single calendar month, and a “micromoon,” which occurs when the Moon is near apogee — its farthest point from Earth — making it appear slightly smaller and dimmer than usual. The moon will reach peak illumination at about 8:45 UTC (4:45 a.m. EDT), and skywatchers in North America will get the best views either late on May 30 or just before sunrise on May 31.
Despite its name, the Moon will not actually appear blue, but the event is still considered special because Blue Moons only happen every two to three years.

Today, we celebrate Armed Forces Day. President Harry S. Truman led the effort to establish a single holiday for citizens to come together and thank our military members for their patriotic service in support of our country.
On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to replace separate Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force Days. The single day celebration stemmed from the unification of the Armed Forces under the Department of Defense and is observed on the third Saturday in May.
