The details most people overlook are often the ones that matter most.

Solid wood naturally expands and contracts as humidity changes. That’s why proper table construction requires more than simply joining boards together.

Every detail has a purpose, from how the tabletop is supported to how we accommodate seasonal wood movement.

At Silver Oak Furniture, we don’t just build tables to look beautiful on delivery day. We build them with long-term performance in mind.

Great furniture isn’t just about what you see. It’s about understanding what’s happening underneath.

Buying a dining table? Don’t make this mistake! 📏

One of the biggest mistakes people make is choosing a dining table before knowing what size actually fits their space.

Here’s a simple rule:

✅ Allow roughly 3 feet around your table for chairs and movement.

✅ Plan for at least 24 inches of seating space per person.

✅ Think about how many people you want gathered around your table.

The right dining table should fit your space AND your family.

Not sure what size you need? Comment “TABLE” below and we’ll help you figure it out! 👇

Choosing a wood species isn’t just about which one looks the best.

You have to think about:
• How the table will be used
• The look you want in your space
• Durability
• And your budget

Oak, maple, walnut and other hardwoods can all make incredible dining tables — but the best option depends on you.

That’s one of the biggest advantages of going custom. We can build around your home, your family and the way you actually use your table.

Which would you choose: oak, maple or walnut?

Would you pay $6,000 for one slab of wood? 👀

Two of these slabs are around $900.

One is $6,000.

When you get into high-end lumber, species, size, figure, grain and rarity can make the price jump FAST.

The crazy part? Most people would never know the difference until you explain it.

Which one would you pick?

Not every finish belongs on a dining table.

Some look incredible but require more maintenance.
Some are tough, but can make the wood look plastic.
And some give you the durability a high-use dining table actually needs.

After using a lot of different finishes, 2K polyurethane is my go-to when durability matters most.

There’s no perfect finish for every situation, but there is a right finish for how the table will actually be used.
