Bentwood is a term that gets used an awful lot; we suppose because it was such a popular mid-century furniture-building technique. Not all bentwood furniture is created equal, though the fundamental idea is the same across makers - wood is steam-softened and bent into the desired form. This allows for unusual and organic shapes. The term has been in use since 1822, coined around the time of Michael Thonet's famous bentwood Vienna café chair.

One of our favorite aspects of design is material combinations. Resin and glass, fabric and chrome, leather and chrome, (really anything with chrome), cowhide and wood, burlwood and brass, lucite and canvas, marble and walnut, the possibilities and vibes are endless. A variety of textures is part of what can make a really, really special piece.

What's your favorite combination?
