Looks like we have a few unexpected visitors in the Cabinet IQ of Lee's Summit showroom! 🎃👻

Even the monsters couldn't resist stopping by to check out the cabinetry. 😂

Consider this our version of Halloween content.

No pumpkins required.

We’re looking at the darker side of kitchen design deep cabinetry, dramatic stone, warmer lighting, and the contrast that keeps it all from feeling too heavy.

Done well, a moodier kitchen can feel just as inviting as a light one.

Would you go this dark at home?

A good kitchen budget isn’t about spending more everywhere.

It’s about knowing where the investment will actually change how you use the space.

We’d rather see someone spend on storage they’ll open every day than on a feature that only looks impressive in photos.

Start with how you live.

Then decide where the money should work hardest.

Warm wood has a way of making a kitchen feel more inviting, especially when the rest of the space is clean and neutral.

What makes it so interesting is the natural variation. The grain, the subtle shifts in tone, and the texture bring character without needing too many additional details.

When designing with wood cabinetry, we like to balance it with softer countertops, simple hardware, and finishes that let the natural grain stand out.

And you don't need wood throughout the entire kitchen to make an impact. Sometimes an island or a section of lower cabinetry is enough to bring warmth into the space.

That's the balance we love: warm without feeling heavy, natural without feeling busy.

Would you bring warm wood into your kitchen?

Good design doesn’t come from following one formula.

Sometimes it’s a material combination. Sometimes it’s a layout. Sometimes it’s one unexpected detail that makes you rethink a room completely.

These are a few of the designers and accounts we’ve been saving lately for exactly that reason.

Not to copy the look but to notice the thinking behind it.

Currently loving this mix of soft neutrals, dramatic stone, dark wood, and a little contrast.
What makes this palette interesting isn't one particular finish. It's how the textures play together.

The natural movement in the stone, the warmth of the wood, and those deeper tones that give everything a little more character.
A reminder that a neutral kitchen doesn't have to feel plain.
Would you go for this moodier palette or something a little warmer?

October has a way of bringing everyone back into the kitchen.

More cooking at home. Slower mornings. Something warm on the stove. A little more time gathered around the counter.

It’s also the season when we start noticing what makes a kitchen feel comfortable not just beautiful.

Good lighting. Warm materials. Enough room to move. A place where everyone naturally ends up.

Cabinet color is usually one of the first things homeowners get excited about.

But it shouldn’t be the first decision made on its own.

Before committing to a finish, look at the natural light, the flooring, the countertop, and the materials that will live next to it.

The goal isn’t to find the prettiest cabinet sample.

It’s to find the combination that makes the entire room feel right.

Save this before your next showroom visit.

There’s a reason we think about more than cabinets when we design a kitchen.

We think about where someone will sit while you make coffee. Where conversations happen while dinner is getting started. Where people naturally lean, gather, and stay a little longer than they planned.

Those moments affect the design too.

How much room we leave around an island. Where seating makes sense. How people move through the space without getting in the way of whoever’s cooking.

Especially as fall brings everyone back inside, these are the little things that make a kitchen feel good to live in.

Because a kitchen shouldn’t just make sense when it’s empty.

It should make even more sense when it’s full.
