Office & PDF File API for Java is here as a free Community Technology Preview on Maven Central. Three API libraries for PDF, PowerPoint, and barcode processing in Java applications, with no dependency on Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat.
What's Included:
PDF Document API (devexpress-docs-pdf): Create documents from scratch, edit existing PDFs, merge and split files, search and replace text, manage interactive forms (AcroForms), add annotations and watermarks, encrypt and secure documents, generate tagged accessible PDFs (PDF/UA-1 and PDF/UA-2), create ZUGFeRD-compliant invoices, and export pages to images.
PowerPoint Presentation API (devexpress-docs-presentation): Create, load, modify, save, and export PPTX, PPTM, POTX, and POTM files. Full access to slides, masters, layouts, shapes, tables, themes, formatting, headers, footers, and notes. Export to PDF or per-slide images.
Barcode Generation API (devexpress-docs-barcode): Generate print-ready 1D (EAN, UPC, Code 128) and 2D (QR Code, DataMatrix, PDF417, Aztec) barcodes. Export to PNG, JPEG, SVG, or PDF. Embed barcodes directly into PDF pages or presentation slides.
Cross-Platform Architecture: All libraries run on Windows x64, Linux x64, and macOS ARM64, including Docker containers and cloud deployments on Azure and AWS. The rendering stack uses Skia with ICU for text processing instead of java.awt, so the same code runs in desktop applications, headless Linux containers, or cloud services.
Getting Started: JDK 21 or later, Maven 3.9+ or Gradle 8.14+. All packages are on Maven Central under the com.devexpress group. Demo projects available on GitHub.
What's Next: Word Document API and Spreadsheet API are planned for future releases. PowerPoint Chart API is in active development. PDF digital signature support is also planned.
The CTP is free with technical support available through registration. The commercial release is set for 2027.
