If you came by the store today and saw us closed here is why. We will be there tomorrow.
❤️ A JOURNEY THAT DIDN'T GO AS PLANNED — AND THE REAL HEROES OF THE DAY! ❤️
Today started early. 2:30 a.m. early!
I was headed to High Point, North Carolina, for Furniture Market. My schedule was packed with meetings and new products to see. Everything was planned, but sometimes life has a way of reminding us that the most important things aren't on our calendars.
About 10 minutes into my flight, my wife, Tonya, suffered a massive seizure back home.
And of all mornings, the Verizon network was down! Thankfully, we still have our old copper telephone line, and it worked! Tonya would not let me turn it off. I am so glad I listened.
Tonya managed to call our daughter Haley at the store. Haley immediately knew something wasn't right and rushed home. What she found was one of the worst seizures her momma had ever experienced.
Within minutes, our youngest daughter, Brooke, was on her way from Tyler.
And where was I?
Thousands of feet in the air, watching everything unfold through our security cameras, thanks to American Airlines' free Wi-Fi, and unable to do a thing to help.
That feeling of helplessness is something I won't soon forget.
By noon, Tonya was undergoing tests at CHRISTUS in Palestine, thanks to the wonderful Grapeland Volunteer Ambulance Service.
My dad would be proud. ❤️
Tonight, I'm grateful to say Tonya is home and doing okay. In fact, SHE BEAT ME HOME!
It will take some time for her to recover, but she's the smartest and toughest woman I know. After all, she raised our two daughters!
❤️ NOW, LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT THE REAL HEROES — HALEY AND BROOKE! ❤️
Haley kept a cool head during a frightening situation, staying calm and taking care of her momma when she needed her most.
And Brooke? When I tried to reach her, she told me, "Daddy, I can't text right now. Currently driving 30 over!"
That pretty much tells you how determined she was to get to her momma!
While I was stuck between airplanes and airports, feeling completely helpless, my girls stepped up and took care of everything that mattered.
CALM. LEVEL-HEADED. STRONG.
HEROES. TRUE HEROES!
Tonya and I have spent our lives raising these two girls, and today they showed us the greatest reward of all—knowing that when life gets difficult, they have the strength, love, and courage to take care of their family.
Our family has carried the Darsey name in business for 140 years and five generations. I'm proud of that legacy, but today reminded me that our greatest legacy isn't a business or a name on a building.
It's Haley and Brooke. Still the Darsey girls! ❤️
And today taught me something else.
We all get caught up in the stress of everyday life. Running a business, making decisions, meeting deadlines, and worrying about things that seem so important at the time.
But when something like this happens, all those worries suddenly seem awfully small.
The meetings can wait. The business can wait. Everything can wait.
Because nothing is more important than family and the love between a husband and wife.
Tonya and I have shared life's ups and downs, and today reminded me just how precious that love really is.
Sometimes it takes a frightening day to remind us of the blessings we have every ordinary day.
Thank you to everyone who helped our family today. Your kindness and compassion reminded me that there are still some truly wonderful people in this world.
Tonight, my wife is home, my girls are safe, and this husband and daddy is one very grateful man.
HALEY AND BROOKE, YOU ARE THE BEST LEGACY YOUR MOMMA AND I COULD EVER ASK FOR!
And Tonya, after everything we've been through together, there is no place in this world I'd rather be than right beside you.
❤️ I LOVE YOU ALL MORE THAN WORDS CAN SAY! ❤️
