White oak cabinets and floating shelves made for my clients high end audio equipment and for displaying their art. Heavy duty construction from 1.5” thick solid oak. The goal was to match the already existing speakers in terms of wood species and mitered edges. The cabinets were designed by Richard R Bass Architects. At first, while building them in my shop they seemed quite large with their 4’ height. Some shop mates jokingly asked if they would be for an NBA player. But once they were in their new setting, they just looked right. The last picture with the pieces and the electricians helps to demonstrate the proportions.

Complete rebuilt koa chairs. Six of them. Dissembled all parts, repaired where needed, cleaned all joints, replaced dowels when broken, sanded and sanded some more, and put them back together. Finished in satin spray-on varnish. All new upholstery. Basically new chairs in original mid century design. Available now for $9500.

Daybed, or as we say in Hawaii, punee. Made from beautiful Oahu grown monkeypod wood. Used Domino XL metal connectores and 14mm wood tenons for solid rigidity. Due to these high quality connectors it comes apart / goes together really easy. Built to last a lifetime and beyond.

Booth style seating and tables for the community room of the ililani condominium complex in Kakaako. Made with imported ply and Oahu grown monkeypod wood. The four 60”x30 tabletops are coming from one massive single slab that was collecting dust in my shop. Glad it finally went to good use. Fun green upholstery.

New white melamine desk top with solid walnut nosing for Coast Guard Cutter Jupiter. Things that go into a small job like this: establish through many emails what is wanted, collect payment, site visit for measurements and overall checking what is gonna be the best way of building and installing it, melamine only available in 1/4” which is not flat enough, therefore buying 3/8” baltic birch for additional stability, gluing those together with epoxy in vacuum bag, building and finishing solid walnut nosing before it gets installed to the top, epoxy nosing to the top making sure the epoxy doesn’t get on the surfaces and the top stays flat in the process, sealing the back side, final cleaning, blanketing top and get all the tools one needs (and some extra because you never know), driving back to the ship, taking off old nosing and gluing new top to the old one. Driving back to shop, putting tools back, instagram post. Next please 😃

Extendable table made with Oahu grown monkeypod wood. The 2’ leaf makes it a 46” x 70” table top. For the base I took inspiration from the danish teak tables but gave the leg more width where it curves at the bottom. Took a little to figure how the leg is actually constructed and pulls apart, but with some input from the design became clear. In order for me to get the measurements right and see it all before I start building, I create a to scale drawing on some plywood or MDF. You can see it in picture 9 leaning upright in the background. Solid built with stunning grains.

Classic built coffee table for our UPS driver. Had the slab I made this coffee table from sitting in my shop for many years. Was quite large with some imperfections and therefore never turned into a large dining table. Ended up cutting it up and gluing it back together at the desired width and length which allowed me also to pick the best sections of the slab. Table base for max stability due to active grandkids 😄. Very nice colors and grains. -table
