Recent brick restoration by Naked modernism. Purchased a historical property in Downtown Los Angles. Limestone mortar only last 50-100 years max. Historical buildings must be painstakingly re-mortared. This entails hand chiseling of every single mortar line to 3/4” and repointing with historically accurate limestone from France. No box store supplies on this job. Portland cement cannot be used on historical buildings. The brick must breathe, and the limestone allows that and allows the brick movement as the earth shifts. Portland cement is harder than the brick which cause failure and Spaulding. Now it feels like only 100 more walls to go.

Original Bentwood Rocking Chair by Michael Thonet, founder of modern furniture design. Same as the one Pablo Picasso sat in while painting 'Jacqueline sitting in a Rocking Chair', 1954, Pablo Picasso. He would study his artwork
from his bentwood rocking chair in Villa La Californie.

Michael Thonet (1796-1871), is known as the German-Austrian inventor of the process of bentwood production, recognized by flowing forms and the resulting lightweight product. in 1830, he experimented with bending steamed wood to create furniture. Mihael Thonet received a patent in 1856 for the process of bentwood manufacturing, when he and his five sons began to produce innovative ‘bentwood’ furniture. After his patents for the process expired in 1869, imitations abounded and still do.  Some consider him the founder of modern furniture design.
