Vintage Mid-Century “Homer Bros.”Dinning Set-

Homer Bros. Furniture was an iconic Chicago institution, founded in 1912. The company was started by five brothers, Joseph, Abe, Louis, Henry, and Jack Homer, who immigrated to the United States from Ukraine at the beginning of the 20th century.

Every single brother managed a highly specific department of the factory based on their unique skill set. Louis served as president and oversaw the construction of dining and bedroom lines; Jack led the actual aesthetic design department; and Abe managed the intensive retail showroom.

Long before modern warehouse stores existed, Homer Bros. bypassed traditional furniture retail stores. They manufactured everything on-site and sold it directly to families from their factory showroom to eliminate corporate markups. For Chicago families, buying a "Homer Bros. Custom Piece" was a proud symbol of entering the middle-and-upper class.

Homer Bros. was famous for catering to wild customer customization requests. If a buyer walked into the showroom and requested specialized, avant-garde upholstery or complex adjustments to the wood frames, the brothers eagerly built it. Because of this, almost every Homer Bros. suite found today has slight custom variations, making a completely matched set like this incredibly rare!

This solid wood dinning set features its 3 original expansion leaves (measuring in at 96” with all 3), 4 original chairs, and 4 Knoll chairs (color matched).

Everything you see here has been carefully restored and reupholstered! If you’re looking for a show stopping addition to your home or a place for your family make memories and gather for the holidays, this set is perfect for you!

Vintage MCM- “Profile” Dresser set
- by Drexel

When you hear the words “they just don’t make them like they use too!”, they were talking about these!

If you look closely at the side edges and that dramatic mid-lip on the tall boy, the wood looks like a smooth, cresting wave. That unique silhouette belongs to the legendary industrial designer, John Van Koert.

Before he designed furniture, Van Koert was a master jewelry designer for Harry Winston. When Drexel hired him to create the Profile line in 1955, he approached furniture construction like a jeweler creating a setting. He famously hated the boxy, blocky styling of early 1950’s furniture and set out to create something "fluid, functional, and visually seamless."

Van Koert didn't just use walnut. The flat surfaces are rich walnut veneers, but the sweeping, curved structural frames are carved from solid native pecan. Pecan is so dense and strong that it allowed Drexel to carve those dramatic, flowing curves without risking the wood warping or splitting over time.

This incredible set has stood the test of time and has been carefully restored!

Vintage MCM “Sun Coast” Bar-Hutch-
- by Drexel

The Drexel Sun Coast collection was designed and launched in 1958-1959 by two of the most renowned Mid-Century Modern designers in history, Kip Stewart & Stewart Mac Dougall. Even with a pedigree like this, the Sun Coast collection went down in history as Drexels greatest failure.

During the late 1950’s the furniture industry was under siege by clean danish-sculptural designs made of walnut. The Drexel Sun Coast was too “modern”, square, plain, and it was made out of hand selected, wild, American cherry.

After just one year on the market, this collections record breaking low sales earned itself the title as their “greatest failure”. During this time, Drexel had been preparing to release, what would go on to be one of their most successful and notable collection, “The Declaration”, out of fear of tarnishing Kip Stewart & Stewart Mac Dougalls reputation, Drexel not only killed this collection they went as far as to pull any remaining pieces from stores and showrooms to be used as design test pieces for designers to “create with”.

This Drexel Sun Coast bar hutch at the time was the biggest and most expensive piece in the collection, leading to it being the least purchased and least produced piece of all.

Consequently, this is one of the rarest Drexel pieces of all time, due to the short lived production and unpopularity. We have spent months searching, only to find TWO others that have surfaced in the last several decades.

This piece has not only received a fully documented, ground up restoration, it also features every single factory screw, hinge, pull, k**b, original record dividers, and most importantly the original starburst etched glass! Additionally, these almost exclusively came with a gold brushed bent aluminum bases, as you can see this one is made of solid cherry, only adding to its rarity!

You won’t find another, so come see us this weekend!

This piece will be available for viewing and purchase beginning this Friday at the Robin’s Nest, located at-

1323 W 13th St KCMO
