My childhood dresser is finished and it looks great! It's been painted a custom blue, the original hardware was cleaned up and highlighted with gilding wax and look at that top! It turned out so nice when I stained it the second time. These old, vintage pieces really hold up!

It took 5 hours in a crockpot (used only for hardware) to get all the white paint off the original hardware. Several times of pulling out the hardware, scrubbing it with a wire brush and soaking it again. Once it was clean, I added a gilding wax in the color "vintage antique". Isn't it pretty?
The blotchy stain has been removed and I’m starting over but I wanted to share what this dresser top looks like after decades of use. The dresser is probably 65+ years old at this point and I don’t remember how badly my sisters and I may have abused it when we were kids. But it sure does have a lot of stains. I’m using a Varathane gel stain so hopefully it’ll look good when it’s finished and all the staining won’t be visible.
Stripping 3 paint layers off the dresser top. Unfortunately, the wood underneath the original painted finish is not pretty wood. Plus it didn’t take stain very well so that was disappointing. I am going to remove the stain I applied and try again but ultimately it may end up getting painted. I guess that’s why some of the French provincial furniture was painted that creamy color with the gold trim because the wood under the paint wasn’t “pretty” wood.

I'm working on another piece for my house. This has been in my guest room since 2022 and has made the rounds in my family. 😁
My mother bought it second hand for me when I was a child...when I moved out, it stayed at my parent's house and my younger sister used it...I got it back in the late 90's when my daughter was a teenager and I painted it and stenciled an ivy pattern on it (ugh, but that was a thing back then)...then it went to my niece...when I got it back in 2016, it received another make-over for my granddaughter's room in my house. We mixed red and white until we got the exact shade of pink that she wanted. She's 17 now and doesn't stay over like she did when she was a child and "her" room has been turned into my home office and the dresser went into the guest room. It's now getting its 3rd makeover but it sure has held up well. Solid wood, quality, vintage pieces always do. Stay tuned!

This memory popped up today. I finished these two pieces for a very sweet client in 2017. The pie safe is still one of my favorites. Check out the "before" pictures - don't you agree that the "after" is so much better? And most important, my client was very happy.

*For Sale*
Now that my oak draw leaf table is completed, it has replaced this antique mahogany wood table. So this table is now for sale. With the leaves up, it measures 53" long x 42" wide x 30" tall. With the leaves dropped down, it measures 43" x 25". Put the leaves up to seat four or drop them to seat 2. It also makes a nice entry table. It's a very old table, more than 100 years old, is made of mahogany and has the quirks of a table that has lived an interesting life (see last two pictures). $225 Table Only. Message me if interested. **Chairs not included.**

My table is finished and it looks so good!
It's been painted a custom blue using Fusion midnight blue, willowbank and homestead blue. The top has two stain colors, classic gray layered over weathered oak. It will sit in my study to hold some old computer equipment and will be used for extra seating when needed.
