Thank you to the volunteers from First Presbyterian Church for taking care of our crew’s lunch on Saturday! The casseroles, salads, and cookies were much appreciated by everyone. We’re also grateful to Barb Friskopp for serving lunch and helping make sure our volunteers had a chance to sit down and enjoy a good meal.

It was a chilly morning at the build site on Saturday, but that didn’t stop our volunteers from making progress on all three homes!

Cazbi’s House #104 is getting so close to the finish line! The house numbers are up, and her dedication is set for October 30, when we’ll hand over the keys. Ken raked and prepared the yard for sod and seeding, while Jerry and Ken tackled scuff marks inside and Keith installed the window screens.

At Jessica’s House #105, window blinds and kitchen cupboards are going in. Fiddelke Plumbing and Heating installed the HVAC unit in the laundry room, and the new floor planks have arrived and are acclimating before installation. Outside, Ken continued preparing the yard for more dirt and sod, while Kay and Rodger worked on the fencing.

There was plenty happening at Nery’s House #106, too! Soffits are being installed, work has started on the safe room in the master closet, and Rodger prepared the baffles that will go between the roofline and walls. On Saturday, volunteers laid out the driveway and marked the location of the garden shed. We also had a great crew from Nery’s church family, Redencion Eterna in Gibbon, join us to paint the exterior’s first coat of beautiful "Stone" color.

There was a little bit of everything happening at our homes last week, from pouring sidewalks and finishing siding to getting ready for some exciting next steps!

Cazbi’s home is nearly ready for its dedication! There’s still some yard work ahead, including fencing, sod, and seed, but Kay led a crew of volunteers Saturday to get the fencing started.

At Jessica’s house, volunteers poured the sidewalk connecting the driveway to the back door and garden shed. Painting continued inside and out, and the interior is nearly finished. We’re also getting ready to install more cupboards, while fencing began along the back of the property near Avenue M.

Nery’s home is making progress inside and out, too. The interior is ready for the electrician, and volunteers finished installing the siding outside.

And, of course, there’s always dirt to move! Jerry has been keeping the tractor busy as work continues around the properties.

Rainy weather slowed things down last week, but there was still plenty of progress at our homes and in the warehouse!

At House #104, Cazbi’s kitchen and bathroom backsplashes were completed, and volunteers added finishing touches like towel bars, a mirror, cabinet hardware, and vent covers. With appliances delivered, the crew also installed the refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher. Outside of build hours, Cazbi and her daughter have been busy refinishing a table and chairs in the warehouse—a big project they're working hard to bring to life!

At House #105, Zach and Keith finished up drywall work, bringing Jessica’s home closer to interior painting. Jessica, Nery, and Danilo also painted doors at the warehouse.

Meanwhile, volunteers built the walls for Nery’s garden shed while Nery helped paint doors upstairs.

At Cazbi’s house ( #104), the kitchen and bathroom backsplash went in, adding another detail that makes the house feel like home. Jessica also got to add more personal touches to her house ( #105) by helping paint the first coat on her garden shed. Her driveway was poured, and work began on the soffits.
Meanwhile, house #106 is starting to look more like a home from the outside. Nery and her crew worked on painting trim at the warehouse while volunteers wrapped her house in Tyvek and began installing the windows.

A lot of progress was made across our Habitat homes after the Labor Day weekend, with volunteers tackling projects both inside and out.

At House #104, Cazbi’s beautiful black countertops were installed, and the lawn was graded and prepared for sod and seed.

At House #105, Jessica’s siding was completed, and painters put on the first coat of deep teal blue. Volunteers added Tyvek sheeting and a door to the garden shed. Inside, volunteers helped with cleanup while members of the UNK Men’s Basketball team helped install netting so insulation can be blown into the walls. Others also began hanging drywall on the interior walls and ceiling.

At House #106, volunteers installed the tub surround before the interior walls went up. The building committee and volunteers worked together to put up the rafters in record time—finishing by coffee break! They then continued sheeting the roof while others below secured the frame to the foundation with hurricane clips.

Thank you to the members of UNK Men’s Basketball team for spending time at the site and helping move things along!
