A LIFESAVING gift to our community I have been waiting to tell you all about!
We are excited to announce the addition of a new outdoor Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for our town park, made possible by an incredibly generous anonymous donor!
You may have already noticed it when it was briefly lit up prior to the electricity being disconnected at the park due to The Bridge project, so we decided to wait until power was restored to share the exciting news.
WHERE IS IT LOCATED EXACTLY?
It is installed on the north-facing wall between the two park bathrooms and is lit up so you can easily find it, even at night, because emergencies don't care if the sun is out or not.
WHAT MAKES THIS PARTICULAR AED SO SPECIAL? I'm glad you asked!
* Unlike most AED's, which are kept inside buildings and may not be accessible after hours, ours is housed in an all-weather outdoor enclosure, designed to provide 24/7 emergency access! The weatherproof enclosure protects the AED from rain, snow, dust, and extreme temperatures.
* It is thermostat-controlled to keep the equipment at safe operating temperatures during our cold Indiana winters.
* It is equipped with both adult AND pediatric electrode pads.
* It even has an interior LED light that helps make the equipment visible during nighttime emergencies!
* It is the only outdoor case of its kind located in Clinton County.
HOW DO YOU ACCESS IT IN AN EMERGENCY? Well that's simple!
1. CALL 911 FIRST!
2. Tell the 911 dispatcher where you are and that you need access to the outdoor AED.
3. The dispatcher will provide the access code to open the enclosure.
4. Retrieve the AED and follow the voice instructions while emergency responders are on their way.
WHY IS THIS SO IMPORTANT?
During sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts. Having an AED readily available can make the difference between life and death. The sooner CPR and defibrillation are provided when needed, the better chance of survival.
TO OUR ANONYMOUS DONOR:
We may not be able to thank you publicly by name, but please know how deeply grateful we are for your generosity and thoughtfulness for our community. You have given our little town something that truly matters - the opportunity to save a life.
We sincerely hope this AED never has to be used, but what a blessing to know it's there if someone needs it.
Thank you for investing in the safety and well-being of our Kirklin community!
!!!!!Please help us spread the word by sharing this post. Knowing where an AED is located and how to access it could someday save someone's life, even yours.
