The EPA registers solid copper alloys as killing more than 99.9% of the bacteria behind healthcare infections within 2 hours of contact. Independent lab testing on Via Seating's copper mesh found the same 99.9% reduction over 2 hours.

A 2020 review of copper-treated surfaces found a 27% drop in healthcare-associated infections, though the authors rated that evidence low to moderate quality.

Copper reduces bacteria between cleanings. Staff still need to clean on their normal schedule.
