Sparkles & Sawdust Sisters Sisters Sarah & Susan transforming tired furniture into elegant, whimsical statement pieces that tell stories of renewal and beauty.

We re-imagine forgotten furnishings, creating unique treasures that bring joy to your home. Rescued • Restauré • Rehomed # About Us

*"Art says the unspeakable; expresses the inexpressible; translate the untranslatable"* - often attributed to Leonardo da Vinci

We believe that every piece of furniture carries stories within its grain—memories of the hands that crafted it, the homes it graced, the lives it witnessed. As sisters with complementary creative visions, we've found our shared passion in breathing new life into forgotten furnishings, transforming them into statement pieces that honor their history while embracing bold new possibilities.

# # Our Journey

Sarah's creative awakening came later in life, after an ADHD diagnosis prompted a meaningful shift in priorities. Having spent her career in hard sciences—with a background in biochemistry, cardiovascular perfusion, military service, and government intelligence work—this artistic turn in her mid-forties represented a complete transformation. The analytical mind that once focused on precise scientific processes now finds joy in the intuitive, expressive world of furniture artistry. This dramatic life change has brought a happiness and fulfillment she'd never experienced before, proving it's never too late to discover your true calling. Meanwhile, Susan had been nurturing her creative talents since childhood—her first handmade quilt, completed at just eleven years old, is now a treasured heirloom. Susan possesses an extraordinary eye for design and an impressive breadth of crafting knowledge, from the technical details of which screws to use to the artistry of flower arranging. Her home looks like a magazine layout, showcasing her natural ability to bring together colors, textures, and elements in perfect harmony. Beyond her expertise in sewing and craftwork, she creates stunning gardens around her home, all while maintaining a full-time career. Her combination of technical skill and aesthetic vision makes her an invaluable creative partner. When we decided to combine our distinct perspectives and skills, something magical happened. Sarah's fresh enthusiasm and innovative ideas perfectly complemented Susan's lifelong craftsmanship and attention to detail.

# # Our Philosophy

Each piece we refurbish undergoes a thoughtful transformation that's really a story progression. We don't simply refinish furniture—we reimagine its narrative. Take our Provence Rose cabinet, who began as a neglected, tired storage unit and transformed into an elegant focal point perfect for storing a little girl's most treasured childhood objects—a beloved stuffed animal, a handmade keepsake, or a special book filled with memories. From dreamy peacock motifs to elegant French-inspired details, we infuse every creation with personality and purpose, writing a new chapter in each piece's story. We're particularly drawn to pieces that have "outlived their appeal" in their current state but possess good bones and whispers of former glory—pieces ready for their next beautiful chapter.

*"Art says the unspeakable; expresses the inexpressible; translate the untranslatable"* - often attributed to Leonardo da Vinci

Our pieces often speak to us before we can find words to describe them. Each transformation begins with a vision—seeing not what a piece is, but what it dreams of becoming. Sometimes we can't fully explain our artistic direction until the piece reveals itself through our hands, and then suddenly, everyone understands.

# # Our Promise

When you bring one of our creations into your home, you're receiving more than beautifully refurbished furniture. You're welcoming a piece that has been lovingly transformed with intention, skill, and artistic vision. Each item receives our dedicated attention, premium materials, and protective finishes to ensure it remains beautiful for years to come.

# # Rescued • Restauré • Rehomed

Our philosophy lives in these three words that capture each piece's complete journey. We **rescue** forgotten furniture from neglect and obscurity, giving overlooked treasures a second chance. Through careful **refurbishment** (restauré), we honor their history while reimagining their future, transforming tired pieces into works of art. Finally, we help them find their perfect match—**rehomed** with families who will cherish them for years to come. It's a complete circle of renewal, respect, and love.

Ailes de Bijoux (Jewel Wings)

Every so often, we come across something we can't quite explain. This time, it was a field journal — worn, water-stained, filled with sketches of dragonflies that don't match anything in any guide we own. The notes inside read less like observation and more like disbelief, as if whoever wrote them had wandered somewhere the rest of us don't get to go, and came back changed by it.

(Or so the story goes — we may have taken a little creative liberty with this one. ✨)

We couldn't leave it there. So we brought three of those specimens to life in reverse decoupage: Sapphire Mosaic-wing, a blue unlike anything we've seen before. Odonata Splendida, the Jewel-Winged, wings edged in gold like something crowned rather than born. And the Alchemist's Sprite, whose tail seems touched by magic we can't account for.

Each transfer was designed with the help of AI, then hand-printed and set beneath glass — three specimen studies, framed like pages pulled straight from that journal. The mat is painted in mermaid color-shift, so the whole piece drifts between blue, plum, and green as the light moves across it, the way something otherworldly might. Tiny acrylic wings rest inside each panel, catching light of their own.

We don't know where that journal came from, or whether its naturalist ever made it back. But three specimens is far from the whole of it — there are more pages left to bring to life.

Meet Dent de Lion. ✨

The world has felt heavy lately — dark, overwhelming, like the negativity is the only thing anyone can see. Stare only at the dark, and the whole world turns grey — shrunken, colorless, hollowed out. But kindness still moves through ordinary days, quiet and constant. That's the color worth chasing. Make it bigger than the dark, and life stays vivid.

That feeling became the seed of an idea: a small sprite, releasing a dandelion wish into the dark, paired with an original quote — "No wish ever came true that wasn't first set free." The name itself comes from Medieval French — dent de lion, "lion's tooth," named for the jagged shape of the plant's leaves. Getting the design right took round after round in Gemini — refining every detail until it finally matched the vision that had been building for weeks.

Once the design was locked, the real transformation began. This one started as a plain, mothball-scented cedar chest — cleaned inside and out, sanded, and sun-aired for days. It was primed, and the finished design was printed on mulberry transfer paper and hand-applied to the lid — a first for us, start to finish, done completely solo.

From there, it became about color. Tiny brushes of acrylic were matched to the scattered seeds, dotted and swirled outward, then dragged and softened until they started to bleed into deep Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black — layer after layer, blending mossy green tones and faint hints of color back into the black, until the color felt like it was quietly fighting its way through the dark.

Every piece of hardware came off, was cleaned, and repainted separately in matte black. Multiple coats of polyacrylic protect the finish throughout. Finally, the inside was oiled with cedar oil to bring back that wonderful natural scent.

Bring the light home. ✨

Four beauties. One holiday weekend. 🎆

Gator Glam 🐊 — she arrived as a tired, worn stool with deteriorating padding and weakened straps. Nineteen hours later, she emerged from the creative swamplands as something entirely her own — wrapped in faux alligator fabric, hand-stenciled gator patches, silver leaf trim, and jeweled accents sparkling in thirteen colors across five sizes. Sumptuous ostrich feather trim adds irresistible movement to every room she enters. Unapologetic, glamorous, unforgettable. $65 → $50

La Petite Fleur 🌸 — a vintage French w**e cabinet with quiet elegance in her bones, restored over 22 hours into something delicate and refined. Soft white with warm pink accents, an authentic French motif transfer crowning her surface, and a sparkling crystal drawer pull that catches the light just so. She's French provincial charm made tangible — equally at home in a bedroom corner, an entryway, or wherever a little beauty is needed most. $100 → $80

Harvest & Hearth 🍂 — a vintage two-drawer accent chest restored over 35 hours and finished in serene sage green, with hand-placed harvest market decals dancing across every surface. Pumpkins, gourds, and the warmth of autumn countryside markets — this piece tells the story of seasonal abundance. Style her with fall foliage or let her bring that quiet farmstand charm year-round.$125 → $100

Le Passage de Maia 🧚 — 58 hours, a fairy portal, crackle and wonder. Layers of watercolor color, sepia washes, and intricate crackling reveal a hidden world just beneath the surface. Colors chosen to harmonize with Maia's transfer — Cordial, Bosc Pear, Afternoon — were layered in circles and spatters until the frame felt like it held another realm within it. At the center, Maia's fairy waits — quiet, watchful, glimpsed only by those who pause long enough to look. Fabric butterflies wired to the posts hover between her world and ours, caught in that suspended moment of crossing. She doesn't just furnish a room — she transforms bedtime into a fairytale. $200 → $175
