Small kitchens ask for more discipline than large ones. There’s nowhere to hide, so every choice has to earn its place.

In this New York apartment, each decision had to work twice as hard, practically, visually, and emotionally. Hand-painted grey cabinetry lays a calm foundation, so the room feels settled rather than squeezed. Polished brass hardware adds a touch of grandeur, kept in check on purpose.

One detail I’m especially proud of is the oversized backplates on select k***s. They give the hardware the presence of a much larger piece without crowding a compact footprint. It’s a small adjustment, and it changes the whole feel of the room.

The walnut floating shelves are a favorite of mine too. They bring warmth and everyday storage without ever weighing the space down.

I love this project because it shows that a small kitchen can be remarkably luxurious when every detail is considered. The blend of grey, brass, and walnut comes together here to form just the feeling you want the moment you walk in after a long day in the city.

As with every commission, we designed, built, delivered, installed, and finished each element ourselves. A full-service approach keeps the details aligned from start to finish.

Dark doesn’t have to mean heavy. In the right room, it’s the most inviting color there is.

This library sits in a home that’s flooded with sun nearly all day, and instead of fighting that light, we let it work. Every shelf, cabinet, and piece of molding is wrapped in one hand-applied matte black, so the daylight coming through the windows and French doors has something rich to play against. The warm oak floors keep the whole thing from feeling severe, and that tension between warm and dark is what gives the room its pull.

And a library should also be used, not just admired. The shelves are modular, so they can move as the collection does. Books sit within easy reach, lit so you can see exactly what you’re grabbing, while a few busts take their place right alongside them. Mesh-paneled doors flank the media area, polished nickel catches the light, and the room settles into what it was built for: a place to read, watch something, or get a little work done.
The best rooms don’t ask you to choose between beautiful and practical. They just quietly do both.

A dressing room should feel like a place you want to start your day, not just a place where your things happen to live.

That’s the thinking behind this one. We kept the cabinetry in a bleached, cerused oak, light and airy, but with the grain and flecking still visible, because lightness doesn’t have to mean flat. The wood keeps its character even when the palette softens.

A tall cabinet with smoked mirrored glass doors adds depth and a little quiet drama, and yes, it doubles as the place you check your fit before you walk out the door.

The vanity is where I love the details most. Glass panels placed on the top let you see straight into the drawer below, which holds a custom insert for ties, socks, earrings, and jewelry. Everything is protected, organized, and visible at a glance, so a daily ritual becomes a small moment of pleasure instead of a search.

Beautiful storage shouldn’t hide what you love. It should present it, and make it effortless to reach for.

Design isn’t about restraint, and it isn’t about excess. It’s about knowing when contrast earns its place.

This kitchen could have played it safe. Instead, it layers warmth against moodiness at every turn, orange wallpaper that refuses to blend in, a navy lower cabinetry that reads almost black against soft, hand-brushed white above, oak accents that keep the darker tones from feeling heavy. None of it fights for attention. Each choice just gives the next one somewhere to land.

That’s the real skill in a kitchen like this: color and material pulling in different directions without ever pulling the room apart. It stays grounded, livable, the kind of space you’d still love walking into ten years from now, not because it’s loud, but because every contrast in it was considered.

We built this one for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in 2022, a project that still makes us proud every time it comes up.

There’s a stillness to this kitchen that’s hard to craft, the kind that comes from a space actually being lived in.

We kept the cabinetry classic and white here, using our Scullery collection with satin brass hardware for a soft, warm glow against the crisp palette. The real anchor of the room is our signature icebox pantry, done in a rich stained walnut with satin nickel hardware, its warmth echoed by matching wood beams overhead that tie the whole scene together quite beautifully. Natural light from outside catches the grain just right, and the whole room settles into this warm, timeless feel.

Some kitchens are designed to impress. This one was designed to be lived in, and somehow it manages both.

Some of my favorite details are the ones you’d never notice unless you knew to look. 

This white kitchen is a good example; hand applied finish, soft and understated, with walnut drawer fronts set against white framing that creates this beautiful, quiet contrast throughout. It echoes the floors, the butcher block, and the custom pullout trays we built for this project.

But swipe to the second slide and you’ll see the real secret. Just beside the range, hidden behind the backsplash, is a sealed spice cabinet. Slide the panel open and you’ll find rows built to hold everything from salt and pepper to olive oil and your everyday spices, all built and installed by hand in that same walnut finish. It stays completely out of sight until you need it, and then it’s right where you’re already standing.

This is the kind of detail I love most: quiet, useful, and only discovered by the people who actually cook there.

People often associate our work with big, grand kitchens and sweeping walls of cabinetry, but some of my favorite projects come from the opposite end of the scale.

This one, in a luxury high rise, is a quarter the size of many kitchens we design, and I’d argue the result is even more pure because of it.

The cabinetry is a soft khaki, finished in high gloss, paired with a warm marble backsplash and countertop carrying that same, subtle tone throughout. Our polished brass hardware brings a modern edge to the space. A small island and a tucked-in wet bar complete the layout, built for one person living alone or a couple who wants everything they need close at hand.

When a space is this distilled, every decision matters more, not less. Small footprint, no compromise.

This time of year always brings me back to kitchens built for gathering.

For example: this white kitchen, with its traditional Scullery styling and polished nickel hardware is beautiful, but it’s the details that make it ready for the season ahead.

The island brings in a dark stained walnut, natural grain and flecking on full display, paired with a custom butcher block. And then there’s the pantry, an icebox style piece standing nearly ten feet tall, with everything you’d need tucked inside for holiday cooking, refrigeration, pull out drawers, snacks, the works.

Just off the main kitchen, a small plating area with a floating glass front cabinet holds fine china, ready for tea service or a nicer course when guests are around.

White as the base, warm walnut woven through, and every inch built for entertaining.

Storage should never feel like a compromise, even in the most elegant kitchens. This corner is a good example, three rows of glass door cabinetry finished in a soft gray, with interiors matched right down to the same tone.

Behind the glass, this client chose to display their favorite pieces, hand-picked drinkware, brass objects, art, and beautiful bowls, all kept safe from dust while still on view.

Against a dark, moody black marble countertop and satin brass hardware, the whole corner takes on a traditional feel, from our Scullery collection. It’s proof that beauty and practicality were never meant to compete.
