MY friend's mom called me out to check out her front porch because the American flag she liked to hang kept falling down and there were some signs that water was dripping.

Well, its a good thing she noticed these signs because there was definitely a problem!

While the framing and design of the porch wasn't exactly how I would have done it, it has lasted for about 20 years without any real issues, so redoing it all the right way seemed like a waste of resources for my client. Instead, we ripped off all of the fascia, roughly 20' of the rotted beam and replaced all of that so it was solid again. Then, we ripped off a 2' strip of the roof at the edge where the roofing was compromised and replaced all of that along the entire front of the house and beefed up all of the rafters.

Now, my customers front porch wont be leaking and she will be able to hang her flags and enjoy the view with peace of mind for many years to come.

Give us a call today to see what Carey's Custom Woodworks can do for you!

I haven't made a post in a while due to about 10 million things going on all of the time, so here are some flooring scribes I did years ago against a fireplace that turned out nicely.

If you're a craftsman and want to, show me your scribes in the comments! ā¬‡ļø

One of the latest projects I was blessed with.

I was contacted by our friend Ruth over at the Clay Historical Association in Clay, NY to build them a matching tongue or "draw bar" for the 1800's water wagon I along with many others restored.

This is constructed out of solid white oak and features a removable handle that can eventually double as a hookup for a trailer hitch, etc. It is finished with boiled linseed oil to create a more period correct finish while also bringing out the natural beauty of the wood.

I was hired to refinish a customer's original screen door for their home, but it couldn't be done.

After bringing the door to my shop and inspecting it further, I decided that it wasn't worth putting any money into and once I explained the situation to the client, we agreed to just build a brand new, custom screen door to match the original one!

This door had a lot of sentimental value to the homeowners, so I built them a brand new one that has the exact same look and charm of the original, with quality craftsmanship and materials that will last them another hundred years.

Sunday February 8th was my (Matthew Carey) 32nd birthday and my gift was going to relax and do pretty much nothing.

Well, life had different plans for me! (As it so often does)

I discovered a leak in my water supply line to my toilet and upon further investigation, I found that the wax ring itself was bad and the toilet was leaking as well! šŸ¤®

I ended up having to rip out the 3 layers of flooring to get to the original pine floorboards which thankfully weren't completely rotted out. From there, I fixed the drainpipe, toilet fl**ge and water line. Then, I shimmed the floor to make it as level as I could, resecured the floorboards, glued and secured a new subfloor down and then laid my tile substrate which was the Schluter-Ditra membrane. By 5am that Sunday morning, I was able to get most of the new tile laid down.

My bathroom got a partial remodel not because we wanted it (even though we did), but because we needed it - even if it was the last thing I wanted to have to deal with!

I am grateful for the gifts God has blessed me with so I am able to do with these hands want many cannot. The bathroom turned out wonderful and once I am able to, I look forward to applying the finishing touches.

If you have any projects you would like to get done, I am your guy and Carey's Custom Woodworks will go to great lengths to bring your dreams for your space into fruition.

And we don't just build your dreams; we build them to last.

Thanks for reading and God Bless!

While I am finishing up 2 big jobs, I thought I would share some photos of a past job that really was a lot of fun to create, build and install. Seeing the drawings come to life was very gratifying on this one as it took a while to design.

This is the reception desk and cabinetry for Shutes Water Systems in Lafayette, just a few minutes down the road from our shop.

This one always reminds me that there is greatness in the details.

Have a wonderful day everyone and God Bless!

Here is a tiny sneak peak into some projects that we have been working on as of late. Being a one man show doesn't allow for a lot of time creating and maintaining an online presence, so I apologize for not keeping everybody updated on business lately! But, we have been busy and work is getting done!

More pictures to come soon so stay tuned!

God bless!
