Had a great time designing this custom coffee table with and It was cool to create something original from our own idea. I bought four reclaimed cypress beams from and cut them in the middle to create a symmetrical grain match. Routing the beams to fit on the base like “Lincoln Logs” was the best way to make carrying the 300 pound top up the stairs more easy as I could carry them up individually. It also adds stability to the piece overall. Then I added threaded inserts to pull the beams tight down to the base to keep everything level. Thanks to for the metal base!

Got some more material stacked today! These are some ash logs that my grandparents and I saved from their property after they had to be removed.

Stacking and storing these slabs is hard work, but if you ask me it’s the most important part of the process! How you store and properly dry your wood is the first and most important step in creating high end custom furniture that will last a life time. Can’t wait to make some awesome pieces out of this stuff!

Been away from the gram for awhile. Had to have surgery on my hand, and then lost my best friend Cole. Needless to say I’ve been having a hard time lately. Life can be a difficult thing. Always be kind, you just never know what someone is going through.

Got back to work a little bit this past weekend milling up some amazing wood that was salvaged from the golf course I live on. We’re in the process of storing it all properly to be dried so that someday I can build beautiful furniture out of it! Look at that massive oak slab with quartersawn grain 🤤 Going to look incredible once I get it all cleaned up and ready for finish!

Got the walnut waterfall coffee table glued up today. I used the TS75 Track Saw to cut a 45 degree angle twice, resulting in a 90 degree continuous grain flow from top to floor. I’ll be able to show that better in the pics to come. I wish I would have gotten pictures of the dominos I put in the joint. They add stability and help with alignment to ensure the joint is clean all the way across. As always, excited to put finish on it.

Last night I posted on Facebook about The Blake House Banquet not knowing what to expect/slightly nervous about over vocalizing about TBH. Well in 24 hours people donated almost $1,000... If you were one of those people, I really can’t thank you enough. Giving is always good, but the direct impact this will have on men’s lives is hard to put into words. I will do my best to document lots of the banquet and post for all to see. I will continue to collect donations as we are always striving to improve the lives of these men and their families.

Got my first piece glued up today. Excited to get it sanded tomorrow and cut the miter for the waterfall. Glue ups are always pretty satisfying.

By now I am sure that most of you have heard me talk about The Blake House. TBH was the fourth rehab I entered in August of 2014 at the age of 18. They were able to help me so clearly see that my use of drugs was due to a lack of identity. I had no idea who I was; if anything, I hated who I was. All I knew to do was mask those thoughts. I can’t sum it all up in this post so I will save it for another time, but make no mistake, without TBH I would not be here anymore...

In addition to learning more about myself, I learned almost everything I know about woodworking. The first day they put me in the wood shop I didn’t even know how to read a tape measurer. I stayed on a second ten months to serve as wood shop leader. Those skills led me to my first job at Sons of Sawdust, which led me to open my own business not so long ago.

This year I have been given the opportunity to build multiple pieces for the annual fundraising banquet’s silent auction on April 25th. As such, I am collecting donations to help me purchase the materials to build some really awesome pieces. I have always provided a piece or two, but this year I am really pumped for what I have planned, and will be building custom pieces just for this event. If you or someone you know would be willing to donate to the cause, please contact me. Anything will help to buy wood, finish, hardware, so on. Completed a bench and some shelves recently. The bench is white oak and poplar, the shelves are solid walnut. In the wood working world the word “install” means exam 😬It’s always a bit nerve racking, but it definitely a good test as to where you are at! Thanks to help, this exam went quite well.
