Mid-Century Brazilian Modern De Couro Leather Dining Armchairs - Set of Four
Available That Galerie Miami
Description
Set of four Mid-Century Brazilian modern dining armchairs manufactured by De Couro, 1980s. Each armchair features a concealed internal frame entirely upholstered in thick, forest green saddle-grade leather. The design shares structural and manufacturing parallels with Mario Bellini’s 1977 Cab 413 armchair for Cassina, utilizing leather as a skin stretched over an architectural skeleton. Like its European counterparts, this South American set features visible hand-stitching along the contoured seams, documenting the artisanal production techniques of late twentieth-century premium leather furniture.
The profile is defined by integrated armrests that cascade into a broad backrest, which incorporates a geometric cutout above the seat line. This design approach creates a clean, architectural silhouette while providing functional back support. The chairs are constructed entirely of natural heavy-gauge hide wrapped over a rigid frame, exemplifying the minimalist, leather-wrapped furniture trends prevalent during the 1980s.
