The American Flag Reimagined ....a beautiful tribute from American Artists to the most potent symbolism representing the pride of a Nation.
🇺🇸 HAPPY 4TH OF JULY 🇺🇸 .

Jasper Johns
“Three Flags”
Canvas
30 5/8 × 45 1/2 × 4 5/8in.
1958

Three canvases are superimposed on one another in what appears to be reverse perspective. Each canvas is painted to resemble the version of the United States flag that was in use at the time the work was painted, with 48 white stars in a blue canton on a field of thirteen alternating red and white stripes.

Jean-Michel Basquiat
"Untitled (Flag)"
watercolor, gouache and ink on paper
3½ x 5 3/8 in.
circa 1979-1980

In his short and largely troubled life, Jean-Michel Basquiat nonetheless came to play an important and historic role in the rise of Punk Art and Neo-Expressionism in the New York art scene.
According to the Smithsonian, Basquiat's former roommate Alexis Adler has previously vocalised the artist's affinity for the flag.

AA Bronson
"White Flag # 1"
2015

White Flag presents seven paintings, each constructed of an American flag, purchased on eBay, mounted on raw linen, and coated in layers of an antique preparation of rabbit skin glue, chalk, and honey.
Created after the Twin Tower attacks on September 11, the chalky coating on "White Flag" bears resemblance to the dust and debris that covered Manhattan after 9/11.

Keith Haring
"American Music Festival - New York City Ballet"
Silkscreen, paper, original pencil drawing
24 × 36 in
1988

Created as a flyer for the New York City Ballet, Keith Haring utilises his signature cartoon figures, placing them against the flag to play with its components.
