Scandinavian charm in this Palm Beach jewel box for our close friends and colleagues Ginny & Coley Collett of Coley Home (Coley Home)

Working alongside renowned architect Bobby McAlpine (McALPINE) of McALPINE and Mary Coley Stevens (STUDIO MC… by Mary Coley Stevens) they turned the classic coastal cottage on its head. Soaring ceilings, tons of natural light and richly imperfect textures make the nearly 3,500-square-foot home feel far larger than its footprint.

Grounding the full salon is a geometric design turned instant-classic from our Scandinavian Collection in a custom color-way.

Its folk-art florals among the well-composed, architectural geometry exemplify the development of the style through the early 20th century. By the 1920s, the craft had evolved significantly into a celebrated medium of personal expression and folk art, with artisans creating more sophisticated, planned designs inspired by European tile-work and the Arts & Crafts movement.

At 8’7” x 9’7”, its room sized composition makes it all the more noteworthy and applicable to larger room settings.

‘Le Carnaval’ by Mandaroux

Carnival revelry unfolds in a modernist, Art Deco–inflected language. Elongated figures in geometric costumes move across a theatrical stage framed by draped swags above and stylized flames below. A radiant sun and arched architectural forms bring Classical and Deco notes into quiet dialogue, while the rhythmic spacing of the figures captures the balanced asymmetry so characteristic of mid-century French decorative arts.

Sage greens, golden ochres, and a deep umber ground reveal Mandaroux’s refined command of color—rooted in the period’s most celebrated textile traditions. Woven in wool using the Aubusson flat-weave technique, the tapestry holds its clarity and decorative presence with quiet authority.

Woven by the historic Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre, in Portugal, Mathieu Matégot’s high-warp wool tapestry, ‘Caravelle’ (c. 1950–1959), showcases an expressive, painterly design touching on postwar European abstraction.

By naming the piece after the Portuguese ship that charted the globe, Matégot paid a poetic, direct homage to the maritime history of the country where his tapestry was brought to life.

The visual composition serves as an abstract visual poem about navigation—the bright, angular yellow shapes evoke the triangular lateen sails of a caravelle catching the light, while the expansive black background represents the vast, mysterious, and uncharted ocean at night, capturing the spirit of an exploration vessel cutting through the dark.

Following a wildly successful career as a pioneer of mid-century modern furniture, Matégot famously turned away from sheet metal in the 1960s to dedicate his life entirely to the ancient, tactile art of tapestry. Caravelle stands as a masterful monument to that creative second act.

Numbered 2/6, this piece retains its original Bolduc.
