Planting around a street tree will not harm the tree if done properly. But building up soil around a tree trunk prevents the roots and lower part of the trunk from interacting with the atmosphere and encourages "girdling," a root problem that eventually causes the tree to strangle itself.

Miles Davis Way Beautification 2022
Since 2016, our volunteers have been beautifying and maintaining the tree beds along West 77th St. between West End Ave.and Riverside Drive, aka Miles Davis Way, bringing joy to passersby and building community.

We Must Come Together And Kill The Dreaded Spotted Lanternflies
