Vitsoe Since 1959 Vitsœ has made long-living furniture, always striving to be better rather than newer.

On the cobbles between Bowery and Lafayette, we can be found opposite Herzog and de Meuron’s first New York building and over the esteemed Dashwood Books. As our shop is just above street level, press the buzzer when you arrive and Amanda, Andrew, Josh or Mike will welcome you.

A moment to yourself.

Like here, in .etc bedroom, where 606 is configured as a dressing table. It fits neatly beside the bed, and doubles as a compact desk. A place for getting ready each day, or for quiet, creative time.

Just two metal shelves to display favourite objects, and a shelf with drawer for discreet storage.

“It feels less like a piece of furniture and more like a canvas for the things I care about,” says Studio Pierce, inviting us into the hobby room where he unwinds after a long day.

“I’ve loved Vitsœ for years, but it’s only been part of my own home for the past year. I find it incredibly satisfying both to live with and to look at. It brings a kind of underlying order to the room, but I can keep shifting and changing things around it as my life and the things I collect evolve. Books, music, photographs and objects move around, while the system stays in place, so the visual result is always changing.”

“When I was around twenty, there happened to be a Dieter Rams exhibition in Korea. It made such an impression on me that I still remember it as vividly as if I’d visited last Friday. That was when I became an admirer of his work and began dreaming of owning a Vitsœ shelving system one day.

About ten years ago, I visited New York on a business trip and went to a Vitsœ shop for the first time. The shelving in the photo is the very same system we planned back then. I still remember how kindly a member of your New York team guided me through the process.” – Soomin Chun

Shelving that makes room for the things you make.

Today’s inspiration is the Dutch home of Giedre Kaziunas, and their wall mounted shelving system that holds their books and handmade pieces:

“606 system was something we had wanted for years, and it has become the focal point of our living room. We both appreciate thoughtful, long-lasting design, and as a creative couple, with my husband working as a graphic designer and me as a ceramic artist, we especially enjoy how it lets us display handmade objects alongside books and design objects without the space ever feeling busy. It also gives us the flexibility to change and add things over time as our home evolves.”

The sound of a pin as you hang a shelf.

You can move or adjust your 606 shelves, cabinets, desks and tables without tools. Just two aluminium pins set into the vertical tracks hold everything in place.

“I’d been considering a Vitsœ 606 system for years, but it was only after visiting a shop and appreciating its craftsmanship and quality in person that I truly understood its appeal.” – record collector and Hi-Fi enthusiast Tony Huang 黃𩃀

“I’ve always had an interest in the ordinary and celebrating things that go unnoticed.”

For ten years, Ethan Barber has photographed New York – returning to the same street corners, allowing the light, the weather and the people to rewrite the scene each time.

His Upper East Side apartment and Broadway studio are where it all starts.
