🐲On 18 March 1713, the Kangxi Emperor celebrated his 60th birthday that lasted for several weeks. Thousands of elders aged 65 and above from across the empire gathered in Beijing to offer their birthday blessings. The princes also presented lavish birthday tributes.

On the occasion, the future Yongzheng Emperor presented his father with a 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘞𝘶𝘫𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘨 poetry album. The dimensions recorded for the album correspond closely to those of the box, suggesting that it may have been specially commissioned to store the album.

🐉🐉The lid features two dragons encircling the inscription 𝘞𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶 𝘞𝘶𝘫𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘨, while the sides are adorned with the Eight Auspicious Symbols, waves and cliffs, and sun and moon motifs, symbolizing longevity and enduring prosperity.

The box is crafted from fine red sandalwood and embellished with pearl, Shoushan stone and other precious materials. It embodies the filial reverence of an imperial son toward his father, offering a rare testament to the craftsmanship, aesthetics and ceremonial culture of the Kangxi court.

🍵A pair of Kangxi Mark and of the Period cups finely painted with scenes from 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘖𝘧 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳. The animated figures and dynamic compositions capture the drama of the narrative.

Porcelain decorated with theatrical scenes is exceptionally rare among Kangxi imperial wares. With vivid enamels, finely rendered figures and a refined quality, this pair exemplifies the celebrated artistry of Kangxi Wucai.

Formerly in the collection of British collector Sidney T. Cook (1910–1964), who began collecting Chinese Qing ceramics in 1946, primarily acquiring them through the renowned London dealer John Sparks, with an emphasis on exceptional quality.

With profound sorrow, we remember Yayoi Kusama (1929–2026), whose singular artistic vision transformed personal experiences into a language that transcended borders and generations. From her groundbreaking years in New York to her return to Japan in 1973, Kusama continually explored the boundaries of self, memory, and infinity.

Created in 1977 after her return to Japan, 𝘚𝘪𝘹 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 features six distinctive female figures in a dreamlike world of flowers, feathers, sparks, and dots. At the centre of the composition stands a girl with shoulder-length hair, widely interpreted as Kusama herself. To the left, the tangled filaments serve as a spiritual link to her concept of “Self-Obliteration,” nurturing the central theme of her life’s work.

𝘚𝘪𝘹 𝘎𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 offers a rare glimpse into an intimate chapter of Kusama’s practice, one that speaks to the resilience of life and the radiant power of the true self—a spirit that will continue to bloom through her art and inspire generations to come.

In 1994, a German Shepherd named Heigen entered Zhou Chunya’s life, becoming his constant companion and, over time, the central figure in his paintings.

Initially depicted in black, Heigen was transformed into vivid green in 1997 through Zhou’s spontaneous experiment. With its untamed sense of desire, intense chromatic presence, and repeated depiction of a singular subject, the Green Dog became one of Zhou Chunya’s most recognizable artistic symbols.

Following Heigen’s death in 1999, Zhou Chunya was overcome with grief and unable to paint for more than a year. In 2001, an invitation to participate in an exhibition brought the “Green Dog” back to his canvas. By then, it no longer represented Heigen alone, but an emotional vessel for remembrance of an old friend.

In the series, the Green Dog commands the visual center, set against a pure white or green background stripped of narrative elements. Through a translucent application of paint, Zhou creates a lean, ethereal figure with an open mouth and tilted stance, transforming the dog into an expression of emotion and vitality.
