Nearly four years ago, longtime le***an bar YBR Pub went up in flames. At that point, the watering hole and community hub had been open for nearly 20 years, which makes it one of the oldest bars of its kind in the country.

Fortunately, fans rallied. A GoFundMe campaign raised just under $9,000 to help revive the space, which reopened in the summer of 2023.

Today, YBR is open seven days a week, with themed events and activities nearly every night of the week 🏳️‍🌈✨

The pub is governed by a set of Golden Rules, including “Y’all really does mean ‘all,’” and offers visitors resources like a library shelf stocked by QueerLit Collective. The bar also serves as a safe space for Tulsa's trans community.

Val Binkley, the bar’s first le***an manager in more than 10 years, agreed to unlock the door early for an interview so we could learn more about the multifaceted work she’s been doing over the last two years — both behind the bar and behind the scenes.
