At the very beginning, before the cotton is layered, before the ticking is sewn and before the mattress tufted and tied, attention goes into the structure underneath it all.
Our craftsmen work directly with the spring units that become the foundation of our traditional innerspring mattresses — checking, adjusting and preparing them by hand before the next layers are added.
It’s part of making a mattress rather than simply assembling one.

Not every mattress we make is headed for a bedroom.
These mattresses are part of a commercial order for a trucking company, made specifically to fit their sleeper spaces.
It's the same kind of work we've done for generations: building mattresses to fit the space, the application and the people who will sleep on them — whether that's at home, in an RV, on a boat or out on the road.
Because when we say custom, we mean it.

There’s more to an innerspring mattress than springs and padding.
Before we begin layering cotton over the spring unit, we cover the steel with a durable cotton canvas duck insulator.
Its job is simple, but important: it keeps the springs from working their way into the soft cotton layers above. That helps protect the cotton, maintain the mattress's structure and contribute to its longevity.
It’s one of those details you’ll probably never see once your mattress is finished, but it’s part of building one to last.

A machine can follow a pattern. A craftsman can see what needs attention.
As the cotton is layered onto one of our innerspring mattresses, it's positioned, pulled, shaped and adjusted by hand. It takes experience and a trained eye to get it right.
That's part of what we mean when we say handcrafted.
One mattress at a time. Since 1913.

Teamwork makes the dream work.
Literally.
There are many hands involved in crafting a mattress. From sewing the ticking and layering the cotton to stitching, tufting and tying, our craftsmen work together to build each mattress one at a time.
All so you can get a better night's sleep.
