Because the traditional glass used in automobiles could crack and shatter, in 1919, Ford became one of the first auto manufacturers to use laminated glass in the front and rear windshields, which helped improve safety, durability and structural integrity.

Windshield glass is a laminate glass, which means a piece of vinyl laminate is placed between two pieces of glass. This prevents the windshield from shattering in the event of an accident.
