It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Bobby Jack Jones.
Dr. Bobby Jack Jones was born April 20 th , 1964, in Palestine, TX, and passed away peacefully at his home in Baytown, TX, the morning of March 30 th , 2026.
He was a lifelong learner and educator. When he was a young boy, he had a fondness for playing school. Often conscripting his cousins and siblings. By all accounts, he was a firm teacher then, quick to paddle and not too tolerant of bathroom breaks. Later in
life, Bobby became a teacher. He taught High School at Westwood High &; Palestine High in Palestine, TX, and Judson High School in San Antonio, TX. Later in life, he amassed over 5 master’s degrees and a PhD in English, going on to teach at Lone Star College in Houston, TX for many years.
Bobby loved his students. He had a special knack for helping his students realize their full potential, even if it meant higher ed wasn’t for them. He was a professor of life in many such cases.
Bobby lived across some of Texas’s greatest cities but spent most of his life in San Antonio and later Houston.
While in Houston, Bobby resided in a small apartment complex of about 12 units in Midtown. An older, quaint complex from the 1960’s. There, he would come to meet some of his best friends in life. A band of young men and women, 20+ years his junior,
who were just getting their adult lives going. Bobby’s magmatic presence, generosity, good nature, and fondness for having a good time earned him a special title bestowed by his friends there. The “Governor of Avondale”.
Bobby would regularly organize apartment cookouts, group trips to nearby festivals, and was always down to hang out “up top” for some drinks on the patio.
Bobby was the best friend anyone could ever ask for. He was always there for his friends when they needed him, regularly offered helpful advice, and would do anything for them. Except for building Ikea Furniture, he drew a hard line there.
Bobby was an adventurer and an avid traveler, often spending entire summers overseas in Thailand and other far-flung places. He had a real zest for life and never would turn down an invitation to go do something.
It shouldn’t go without noting that Bobby was a huge animal lover, with a particular fondness for cats and dogs. Donating regularly to animal charities as well as always volunteering to watch his friends’ animals (the good ones anyway) while they were away.
Bobby is preceded in death by Father Billy Walter Jones (Palestine), his brother Bryan Jones (Tyler), his beloved uncle, Ronnie Huddleston (Elkhart), his cherished aunt, Wanda Hope (Palestine), and his dear uncle, David Jones (Palestine).
He is lovingly survived by his mother Linda Huddleston Evers (Tyler) and a supportive network of aunts and uncles: Jack and Joann Jones (Palestine), Bob and Jane Jones (Grapeland), John and Kathy Huddleston (Kittery, Maine), Sharon Balensiefen (Tyler), Grace Puckett (Huntsville), Malorie Hirsh (Austin), and Jan Jones (Lone Star).
Bobby had numerous other cousins and relatives whom he cherished and loved.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to cousins Brenda and Garrett Pinkston, Tina Hope, and to dear friends Mike Billand, Austin Owens, and Karen Ivy, for their unwavering support during this challenging time.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, April 25 th , 2026, at 11:30 A.M. at 4J’s Family Restaurant located at: 111 County Rd 1405, Palestine, TX 75801.

Our classmate, Luis Giron, has suffered the sudden and tragic loss of his precious and beautiful daughter, Bethany, in a car accident. Bethany was smart and funny and was planning to be a teacher like her father. She would have graduated from PHS this year. As a class, we have an opportunity to show some love to this family by helping to cover costs at this terrible time. Barbara Carwell-Thomas has put together a Go Fund Me account. If you are able to do anything, please give!

Please let us know by Facebook or email or phone or smoke signal if you and your significant other are planning to attend. Remember that if you pay at the door, you will have to pay with cash or check made out to Karen or Jenny, so paying ahead on PayPal will save time Saturday. The PayPal link will only work on a PC.
