This American Elm L-shaped bench didn’t need epoxy to tell its story.

Every knot, every grain, every curve… it’s all part of its natural character.

At Deadwood, each custom piece has a life of its own, crafted to fit your space and become part of your story the moment you walk in.

This bench is more than seating; it’s living art.

Some trees become part of a community.

For decades, this tree stood in Atascadero’s Sunken Gardens… through parades, concerts, celebrations, and generations of families making memories beneath it.

When the tree came down, its story could have ended there.

Instead, we have the opportunity to give it another life.

For those who grew up in Atascadero, walked through the gardens, or simply have a connection to this place, a piece made from this tree is more than furniture.

It’s a piece of home.

If this tree is part of your story, we’d love to help you preserve a piece of it.

DM us or give us a call to learn about having a custom piece made from this historic tree. 🙌🏾

Back at the Robertson residence, and this one is all about the details.

This dimensional White Oak table was designed without the live edge for a cleaner, more refined look, then finished with Rubio Monocoat with a white tint to keep the overall tone light and natural. The wood base ties everything together and lets the White Oak remain the focus.

It’s also one of many custom pieces we’ve had the opportunity to build in partnership with the Robertsons over the years.

That’s one of our favorite parts of custom work. One project can turn into a relationship… and over time, each new piece becomes another part of the home.

How important is the first cut?

Really important.

Once you make that cut, you’re committed. So before we start cutting into a log, we’re looking at the shape, the grain, any defects we can see, and trying to figure out what we want to get out of it.

Sometimes moving that cut a couple inches one way or the other can completely change what you end up with.

You’re basically trying to think a few cuts ahead and get the best material you can out of the log without wasting something you can’t get back.

Cutting is the easy part.

Knowing where to cut is what takes experience.

Epoxy pours are always cool to watch.

But this one was extra special. Carina, Shelby’s daughter, stopped in and jumped right in pouring epoxy like a pro.

It's moments like these that remind us that it's more than just building tables.

It's about family, passing on skills, and being part of the process that turns raw wood into something lasting.

Send this to someone who loves a good epoxy pour. 🙌🏾

We're building a compound miter fold for an oceanfront home in Cayucos.

More glue surface, stronger hold, no nails fighting movement.

The kind of detail most folks never see, but it's why some staircases stay tight for decades.

Want to see how we build for the coast? Send us a message or stop by the shop. 🙌🏾

This one means a lot. 🙏

Thank you, Tim, for the kind words and for recognizing that Deadwood is about more than what we build.

The craftsmanship matters, but so do the people, relationships, and community around it.

We appreciate you being part of the Deadwood story, Tim. 🤝
