In honor of Prematurity Awareness Month, our chapter spotlights Mom Kamaria and Dad Demetrius, who experienced the unexpected and profound journey of prematurity when their twins, Jill Zuri and Jack Zion, were born at just 25 weeks and 2 days in San Antonio, Texas. 💜

What started as a routine checkup at 22 weeks quickly became an emergency when Kamaria learned she was already 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. Fearing the twins would arrive within 48 hours, she was placed on strict hospital bedrest. By God's grace, she remained stable for weeks until labor progressed instantly on July 14, 2019.

In a whirlwind moment, baby girl Jill Zuri was delivered unexpectedly in the hospital bathroom. The medical team arrived immediately, transferring Jill Zuri to the NICU while rushing Mom Kamaria to Labor and Delivery, where her baby boy, Jack Zion, was delivered shortly after.

Born as micro-preemies, both twins showed incredible resilience:

👶🏾 Jill Zuri: Weighed 1 lb 12 oz, 84 days in the NICU
👶🏾 Jack Zion: Weighed 1 lb 14 oz, 82 days in the NICU

Today, we celebrate their strength, their journey, and the beautiful blessings they have become. Join us this month in honoring all of our miracle babies and the families who fight alongside them

As we observe Native American Heritage Month in November, we proudly recognize sisters and Jack and Jill mothers Chapter Parliamentarian Olivia Fairley, J.D. of the Nature Coast Chapter (Southeastern Region), and Chapter Financial Secretary Ida Merritt, MBA of the East-Wake Johnston Chapter (Mid-Atlantic Region), as proud descendants and members of the Tchefuncta Nation, Chahta Tribe, who celebrated the historic grand opening of their tribal community’s Bonfouca Museum & Research Center in Slidell, Louisiana, October 30–November 2, 2026.

Under the leadership of Queen Chief Warhorse, the museum honors the ancestral legacy of the Chahta people, preserves Indigenous history and cultural traditions, and brings greater awareness to the often-overlooked heritage of Black Indigenous Americans.

Guided by its mission, “Connecting the People to the History to the Land,” the museum provides an educational gateway to the rich history of the Tchefuncta Nation and its deep ancestral connections to southeastern Louisiana.

This historic milestone unites two sisters across two Jack and Jill regions in celebrating cultural resilience, ancestral pride, and the importance of preserving our history so future generations understand the power of their identity and heritage.

November is Prematurity Awareness Month!

This month, our Pensacola Chapter will shine a light on the NICU stories, journeys, and testimonies that are near and dear to our Jack and Jill families. Behind every story is a journey of strength, resilience, faith, and hope.

As we celebrate our NICU graduates and honor the families whose journeys began with a little extra fight, we are reminded that even the smallest fighters leave the biggest impact.
Every tiny fighter matters.
