🌸Spring is here and so are the blossoms!🌸 The local cherry blossoms pictured below are quite lovely but why do we never get cherry fruit here in North Florida? It's because most cherries need a lot of chill hours during the winter to produce fruit and even with all our snow we didn't come close.
The Barbados or Acerola cherry also pictured below, however, is a tropical cherry that will thrive and produce fruit throughout the tropics and subtropics including North Florida and the Gulf Coast. It only needs freeze protection in the winter and produces a tasty, nutritious fruit. 🍒

🌹Your yard CAN be a bed of roses with these two hardy, beautiful, and constantly blooming varieties 🌹 The 'Knockout' rose comes in all shades of pinks, peaches, yellows, and whites and is an upright bush with large blooms. The 'Drift' rose also comes in all these colors but is a low growing groundcover with smaller blooms. All do extremely well along the Gulf Coast and survive below freezing.

Happy Spring!🪻🌷🌹 What a welcome from our flowering azaleas this year. The delicate beauties in the top picture are native Florida azaleas and come in yellow and peach as well. They are not only gorgeous but have a beautiful scent. The bold beauties in the bottom picture are azaleas originating from Asia and come in pinks, whites, and reds. They have a faint scent and are evergreen throughout the year. Both of these azaleas are a great choice for the Gulf Coast: hardy, beautiful, and can live for decades.🌸🌸🌸

🍂Heading into Fall and it's time for change! It was a privilege to put in new landscaping for my Church with the help of many awesome people. Six sections of old landscaping was taken out, new mulch put down, and a color-filled, tropical look was put in. The new perennial plants are hardy to 30F and include crotons, false bird of paradise, and flax lily highlighting the beautiful sabal palms.🌴🌴
