One of the most difficult things in life is losing a brother and a friend.

I’ve been locked in with my brother Nadir for over 10 years. We connected when I was cutting hair uptown in my old neighborhood. He later asked me to come to West Philly and cut with him at ESPM, and from that moment on, it was brotherhood.

Nadir was always real with me about my work. He gave me pointers, corrected me when needed, and pushed me to be better. Cutting alongside him, I learned so much—so much that I even found myself mimicking his style. That’s how much respect I had for his craft.

Writing this hurts because I know he’s no longer here with us. The last conversation we had was early Wednesday morning. He would always ask me to come back to the shop and cut with him. No matter what, we always told each other we loved one another.

Hearing of your passing today broke me down and left a huge hole in my heart. Still, I trust that our Lord is the best of planners. I don’t question His timing or His purpose.

May our Lord accept your good, forgive your shortcomings, and make your grave spacious and filled with the light of Jannah. May He shower His protection over your family and your children during this time of bereavement. Allahumma Ameen.
