Sadly this is the first Philadelphia Open Studio Tours ever without the 915 Spring Garden Building. Some artists have relocated permanently and some temporarily. Check the POST page to find new locations. Support these artists, they need you now more than ever!

Many artists have moved out of the 915 Building but many are staying and working from other locations in hopes to return to our beloved studios. Let's hope that happens and quickly! The fate of this year's Philadelphia Open Studios Tour at the 915 building is very uncertain.
Violations empty out studios, and artists mourn
Moving trucks were triple-parked outside 915 Spring Garden St. in the rain Thursday morning as artists - some of whom had kept studios in the old Reading Railroad building for 30 years - wrapped sculptures, boxed paintings, and wrangled with file cabinets.

Artists evacuated after minor fire closes iconic studios on Spring Garden Street
A small, smokey fire quickly put out by firefighters using an extinguisher on Wednesday afternoon has led to the immediate closure of 915 Spring Garden St., a large old Reading Railroad building that has offered about 100 artist studios for more than three decades.

From Steve Donegan: To friends and artists of 915 spring garden st
On Sept 2 a small fire caused by a refrigerator was subdued in one of the studios on the 4th floor. It was controlled with only a fire extinguisher and determined by the Philadelphia Fire Department that it's cause was a small studio refrigerator, there was no damage to adjacent studios. However an ensuing walk through by the Fire Department and L&I resulted in the buildings closure for an undetermined period. In the 30 years plus I have been involved as artist tenant and rental agent for this community we have never experienced this kind of interruption but it is my hope that all of the tenants will be able to occupy their studios again in a reasonable amount of time. Meanwhile I recommend that for information on our status that people contact me at [email protected] and I will post here and on Twitter as information becomes available. This message will be copied to our building web site

After a small fire earlier this week 915 Arts had been shut down by L & I. Reach out to your artists friends and see if you can lend them a helping hand this week if they need to move some or all of their studio belongings out. Not sure if this is temporary or a long term thing. Updates to follow.
